New hire looking for advice
I'm a new hire from the Dallas area and don't have a preference yet for a domicile. I need to remain in Dallas for family reasons for a while, and I would like to get some input on commuting out of Dallas. Are there any domiciles that are easier or more difficult (impossible) than others?

DFW to ATL is pretty crazy I hear. Since it used to be a huge base there are a TON of commuters.

DFW is one of the hardest commutes in the system. A ridiculous amount of crewmembers do that commute. Jumpseat is non-existent and flights are always full. Good luck. I would strongly recommend applying to American since you're just starting out. Long term, you would probably be better off if you plan on staying in Dallas long term. Not to be discouraging. You are just living in a very un-commuter friendly city for Delta.

Is Houston any better?

Recently received a CJO and had a few questions on bases and categories. I live in MSP and want to get back there. Until I get to Indoc this is all hypothetical, but what would be a easier commute or better QOL. DTW 7ER, NYC 7ER or NYC 88. Assuming that those aircraft and bases would be in our drop. Lastly what would get me back to MSP the fastest? I don't care if I'm junior in MSP just want to get back there ASAP.

You're part of the family too.
Being a Dallas commuter is going to increase your stress level big time.

Whatever is keeping you there better be pretty important.

Zero experience first-hand here, but since I've got a lot of friends from the area who are in various parts of the pipeline between application and indoc, I've been asking around specifically about that commute. There's a capt I've flown with a few times who commutes from DFW to NYC and says it's really not that bad. Obviously requires a crash pad. All the DL flights are DCI and mostly into LGA, which means no jumpseat pre-booking. But there are about 20 other airline flights DFW-NYC any given day to look at as well, plus SW and VX flying out of DAL.

Commuting on weekends on DCI looks tougher - only 2 DFW-LGA and 1 DFW-JFK. I just looked up Saturday and it looks like a handful of active folks missed the last bus to work. But again, you've got lots of other options.

I would consider LAX or an airplane that will get you to LAX (717, 73N, 7ER). Several flights a day on DCI plus hourly service on AA. VX and SW out of Love Field. It's a doable commute.
