Has anyone heard a rumor about the possibility that new hires will no longer be getting the MD88 as early as June this year? Any truth to it?

At the last LCA meeting it was mentioned the 88's will be gone by end 2020 (not sure about the 90's).
I believe they said 24 88's and 15 90's are being parked for the rest of 2018.
I think it makes sense not to put new hires in at some point and just let the attrition work out displacements.

It wouldn't surprise me if we displace a new hire off the 88 while they're still in IQ...

Quote: I'm not worried about it but was just pointing out that MSP can be a very tough nut to crack. In MSP, the plug on the 7ER got hired over 3 years ago and for the 320 almost 2 years ago. The plug on the 737 got hired Jan 2017. The only folks that got in under 12 months were a handful of MD88 FOs and we all know what their fate is going to be. I'm on year 9 and have remained stagnant because very rarely do people junior to me backfill my category. They almost always come in senior to me. Not complaining about it but that is just the way it's been. There is a good chance that MSP will see a 717 base and the 737 category will continue to grow in MSP. My best guess would be the 737 would be a new hires quickest ticket to being MSP based but it wont come quick.

It is definitely a bummer to be in or want to fly out of a senior base and although not much of a consolation with our schizophrenic marketing department things will surely change.

For over a decade LAX was an afterthought at DAL. I lucked out at got LAX in my second month as a FE then got displaced to MCO, furloughed and it took until year 7 to get back. Then we got the 737 base, the 717 base and also the 777 base and LAX is now one of the more junior bases. Of course I am now plotting my "Escape From LA!"

That is the good thing about our flying - If you don't like it - don't worry it will soon change. Lots of rumors flying around (pun intended) about new MSP domiciles.

There is almost no way that can happen unless they radically up the retirement rates. The contract governs how they staff. I suspect the company would love to freeze FO’s in the category while they close it down but the contract forbids it.
On a related note it looks like the A330-900’s will be delayed 18 months as we wait for the long range version. (251 ton) This will reduce the need for pilots in the short term but accelerate it as retirements peak.

That is incorrect about the 900s, at least the first 25.

Okay, one of you two needs to flesh your opinions/facts out for me. Thanks.

I thought, after the big bid last year, I was safe as a SEA330A for the rest of my career but now I’m not so sure. I got the impression from CR that the viability of the SEA 330 base would be re-evaluated when we started getting the -900’s in 2019.... Not too worried yet but I really don’t want to go to training again or commute....

I really hope you are right about this! Original schedule has the aircraft arriving next spring with bids this fall. Rumor I heard was now first delivery in fall of 2020. That is coincidently when the first 251 ton airframes will be available. I am really hoping you are right. The company has not put out anything about a delay at this point.

Here is what ship 741 posted.

“Found it...that didn't take long. ...page 21 of 10k filed on Feb 23, 2018, shows the first 4 A330neo's delivered in calendar year ending 2020.
The same 10k shows 15 CS100s showing up this ear and that doesn't seem likely at all.”
I couldn't figure out how to do a screen cap on my phone and attach it, but it is easily google-able.

I looked at the 10k and it shows what he posted. No 330-900’s until fall of 2020. I really really hope it’s in error.

If Renaissance Man is to be believed on FB, he posted just this morning that info from recent roadshows suggest the first 330-900NEOs will arrive early 2019. He also specifically shouted down bad info being spread that they are slated for 2020.

All I can believe is they aren’t here yet.
