Chip is right sizing his company to an ERJ only 121 operation. He’s not in a hurry as attrition helps this process. For three months the company has been losing 130ish CA and only upgrading 30ish. Gone are the emails from Tracy too. Nothing.
I don’t think this was the original plan. Chip met with the training group and spoke to how it was a mistake to give the FOs all the money in the last pay package. On the Q1 call he said “this fall it will be a great time to be a SkyWest Captain.” Note he avoided using “pilot” or “and first officer”. I think he was gonna pay captains 150 something. FOs no increase. Maybe there was even a preliminary agreement with SAPA. Then…. The WO AA pay package happened. And everything changed. And Chip can’t afford to pay both seats. Or, he just won’t.
So here we are. Rightsizing. Chip doesn’t want the CRJ 900s. 9e gets em. SkyWest loves those 200’s as they make the most money. But Kirby is serious. They are going away. Delta’s will too. So, boom! A 135 op.That levee the commitment to the crj 700s for American. TBD I guess. They are very old. No replacement plan.
So, as Chip calls it, the “refleeting” continues. He’s bleeding mechanics and crew support and dispatchers also obtw. Getting smaller with ERJ only and doing the 135 ops on the 200 makes sense. Good business decision in this market.
I get that there’s allot of pilots available to hire. But hiring is about “talent accusation”. If you’re not getting the best, you become a Mesa or GoJet.
So all this feet dragging and lack of info from SAPA makes sense. I’d take the job offer!

Picking up open time
I don’t claim to know much about the inner workings of these pay negotiations, but what is the consensus on pilots not picking up any open time unless they are getting 300% for it. I understand the new guys just wanna fly, and everyone is building block as fast as they can to get out, and sometimes people just need the money, but at the very least check to make sure the credit is what it’s supposed to be (have come across several that were way off, favoring the company) and call crew support and ask for 300%. If don’t do it or the trip doesn’t absolutely favor your time, walk away. It’s the only way to force the company to somewhat get on the level of their competitors right now, it seems. There’s also no sense in burning yourself out working for less than that when you can make your other power move by going elsewhere and getting paid what you deserve.

Sorry…I didn’t put the question mark in there.
Essentially, could we get everyone to agree to calling crew support and asking for 300%, and walk away unless they give it to us? I see a lot of open time getting picked up at 150% and at most 200%. I think we should start collectively forcing the hand that feeds us to feed us more food if they want us to stick around.

This, of course, but would it make a statement if they can’t get their trips covered unless paying their pilots 300%?

wont happen here. Every pilot for themselves. They’ll take what they can get. That’s why there is no union. Nobody cares about the group as a whole. They just want what’s best for themselves.
