By Dawn Gilbertson, USA Today. "Delta Air Lines is under fire for an anti-union flyer urging workers to spend their money on a video game system instead of union dues. The Atlanta-based carrier, which is the least unionized major U.S. carrier, distributed a flyer in airport break rooms used by baggage handlers and other ground workers, according to the International Association of Machinists."

Hate Paying For Internet Service At 35,000 Feet? Delta To Test Free In-flight Wi-Fi

"Delta Air Lines plans to offer free Wi-Fi on select flights beginning May 13, the first step in a test to determine whether it will become the second major U.S. airline to offer free in-flight internet service. The two-week test will feature free high-speed Wi-Fi on 55 daily flights. The flights, all within the United States, will change daily. After Southwest Airlines Family Boarding Policy Change, What Are The Policies With Other Airlines
By Sarah Jarvis, Fort Myers (FL) News-Press. "Southwest Airlines updated its family boarding policy after a same-sex Naples couple said they faced discrimination by a boarding agent two years ago. The policy now allows 'two adults' to board together with children under 6 during family boarding, instead of 'an adult.'"

American Airlines Adds Routes From Sky Harbor To Mexico And South Dakota
By Melissa Yeager, Arizona Republic. "American Airlines will add a pair of new routes from Sky Harbor International Airport later this year, just two of several new domestic and international routes the Dallas-based carrier plans to add in time for winter. On Sept. 4, American will start flying between Phoenix and Rapid City, South Dakota. The daily flight will operate year-round using a Bombardier CRJ200."

American Adds Acapulco And Huatulco This Winter
By Edward Russell, FlightGlobal. "American Airlines will add Acapulco and Huatulco in Mexico to its network among 16 route additions this winter. The Oneworld Alliance carrier will connect the Mexican destinations with its Dallas/Fort Worth base twice-weekly with 76-seat Embraer 175s on a seasonal winter and summer basis from 21 December, it says today."

American Airlines Ranked No. 1 In U.S. By Flight Delay Compensation Company
By Kelly Yamanouchi, Atlanta Journal-Constitution. "In a ranking of airlines around the world by a flight delay compensation company, American Airlines got the highest score among U.S. airlines. American ranked 2nd globally in the ranking by flight delay compensation firm AirHelp based on passenger surveys, claim processing and on-time performance."

Norwegian Pilot Redundancies Possible At London Gatwick
By Chris Loh, Simple Flying (UK). "A report earlier today by the Financial Times says that Norwegian may need to make pilot redundancies at its London Gatwick airport base. This is due to two main problems: their Boeing 787 Dreamliner engine issues and the 737 MAX crisis. Norwegian have leased aircraft complete with pilots and crew to replace their grounded planes."

Defiant Air Italy Will Launch Two New North American Routes Next Year
By Gary Leff, View From The Wing. "Under the US-Qatar Open Skies agreement Qatar Airways can legally operate flights between Europe and the United States. They haven't done so in over a decade, since they've acquired aircraft that can fly non-stop from the US to their capital of Doha."

Las Vegas Flight Grounded After Strange 'Odour' Smelled On Board
By Helen Coffey, Independent (UK). "A flight from Las Vegas had to return to the gate before takeoff after a strange odour was detected onboard. The Spirit Airlines service from McCarran International Airport to Minneapolis was grounded and eight people were taken to hospital following the incident."

New Orleans Advocate. "Canada's Air Transat said Thursday that it will begin offering nonstop flights between New Orleans' Louis Armstrong International Airport and Montréal–Trudeau International Airport from November. The new connection will bring to eight the number of direct international destinations connected to New Orleans airport and is the latest in a slew of new flights added ahead of the opening of the new airport in Kenner later this year."

Fire Grounds Toronto Flight To Sudbury
CTV Northern Ontario (CAN). "There were some tense moments at Pearson Airport in Toronto Wednesday night for passengers aboard an Air Canada Express plane headed to Sudbury. Officials say Jazz flight 8613 experienced an issue with the left main brakes as the jet departed just after 7 pm. The crew quickly stopped the plane as a fire broke out and evacuated the passengers immediately."

FAA Forms Multi-agency Panel Of Experts To Review MAX Software Fix

"The FAA has assembled a new, multi-agency Technical Advisory Board (TAB) to review the proposed software fix for the Boeing 737 MAX's maneuvering characteristics augmentation system (MCAS), the flight-control law implicated in two crashes of the aircraft type that killed 346 people over a five-month period. The panel will be comprised of a team of experts from FAA, NASA, the US Air Force and Volpe National Transportation Systems Center."

Emirates Posts Significant Drop In Profits, At $237 Million
By Aya Batrawy, Associated Press. "The Middle East's biggest airline, Emirates, said on Thursday the profits were down almost 70% in the past fiscal year, reaching lows of $237 million, compared to last year's whopping $762 million. The Dubai-based airline's parent company Emirates Group also posted lower profits at $631 million, down 44% from last year."

Korean Air, Asiana Phasing Out 1st Class Services
By Kim Hyun-bin, Korea Times. "Local full-service carriers will halt operation of their first class cabins and instead increase the number of economy and business class seats, as more consumers have shown to favor lower prices over paying extra for higher quality services. Starting June, Korean Air will halt its first class services on many of its international routes to reduce costs because the demand for the premium service is declining and it will be more profitable to increase the number of available seats in business class and economy class."

"Passengers opened the emergency exits and climbed onto the wings during a chaotic evacuation on an Aer Lingus flight that returned to its origin after fumes filled the cockpit, a new incident report on the 2017 episode reveals. The final report from the Air Accident Investigation Unit in Ireland, released on Tuesday, details the scene on the Nov. 2, 2017, flight, which was bound for London but returned to Cork, Ireland."

Belgian Cockpit Association Responds On The Social Conflict At Belgian Air Navigation Service Provider Skeyes

"The Belgian Cockpit Association (BeCA) is worried about the on-going social dispute at the Belgian air navigation service provider, Skeyes: 'on several occasions since 2016, our pilots association already warned the skeyes (formerly Belgocontrol) management and our Authorities about the consequences of a chronic staff shortage. Today our fears seem to have become a reality.'"

China's 'Big Three' Get Set To Do Battle At Daxing International
By Jennifer Meszaros, Aviation International News. "Competition among China's big three state-owned airlines—China Southern, China Eastern, and Air China—appears set to further intensify with the September launch of Beijing's highly anticipated Daxing International Airport. According to the Civil Aviation Authority of China (CAAC), China Southern will take the largest share of traffic after the agency granted it 40 percent of Daxing's air traffic resources. China Eastern saw its share drop from 40 percent to 30 percent after it opted to maintain its Beijing to Shanghai route from Beijing Capital International Airport; its 10 percent share will go to Air China and its subsidiaries."

Grounded India Airline's Staff Bid May Be Heard As Others Waver

"A bid being stitched together by pilots of the grounded Jet Airways India Ltd. may get a hearing if no binding offers emerge from the four potential investors currently in the race, people with knowledge of the matter said. Lenders led by State Bank of India have asked a group of airline employees, seeking to make a formal proposal, to wait to see who remains in the race after a Friday deadline lapses, the people said, asking not to be identified as the information is private."

BA-Owner IAG Reiterates Flat Profit Guidance As Fuel Prices Weigh
By Alistair Smout, Reuters. "British Airways owner IAG on Friday reiterated that there would be no growth in operating profit in 2019 due to pressure from higher fuel prices as it posted first quarter results in line with expectations. The airlines group, which also owns Iberia, Aer Lingus and Vueling, said first quarter operating profit was 135 million euros (116.88 million pounds), compared to consensus analyst expectations of 136 million euros."
