Couldn't have said it better myself. This is, unfortunately, pretty common and it's not just young people. In many industries, the early career professional position making $50K to $100K is absolutely a grind. I'm a second career guy; i spent the first five years out of college working nights and weekends away from home and it's common. Missed all the major holidays for the first 6 years. It's been common for a long time, people just don't see it. I would submit that any career path with the potential to make $200 to $400K is rarely an "8 to 5, home every night." And the phone is always on, and you better have a bag packed.

Thanks and I smell what you’re stepping in. Great question about whether I want to commute for the long haul (pun intended) - no, yes, definitely maybe...
Just show up for work on time, 90% of the job, any job for that matter.
When your new and commuting you will need to give yourself plan A,B,C to show for work on time. That's three jumpseats or two and a car that will get you to work on time.
You may end up leaving the night before.
When you have been doing it for a while and see that plan A works 95% of the time or what your comfortable with, then you might get away with just plan A,B, get my drift?
Still want to commute?

Crap happens sometimes, but 30 days in a rolling 12-month period sounds like they had to have mailed it in more than once. Situations like this is what creates the confusion/different perceptions, but it’s tough to fault the company for taking action here.
Agreed, I was in the jumpseat of a flight and the FO was talking about how he got pulled into the CPs office because he had missed 30 days.
I commuted at OO and never had any issues. As long as your smart about it, have a backup plan, and keep an eye on weather/loads. You’ll be fine.

I left in part because training was too much work, you can make $200k as a line FO at a major. Doing one leg days.

I hope he or she is at least contemplating pursuing a legacy. You can make that by year 3 without too much effort. And west coast domiciles are junior now for the legacies.
