This is not a typical industry downturn, so you cannot even compare it to anything, it is unprecedented. I am sure you were like everyone else and had ZERO idea we would be sitting in this position when this started. You don't know what or won't happen this time.

I think that’s pretty fair to say. It’s not like domino was saying 10 months ago, “wait ‘til the global pandemic hits. 50% furloughs? Get ready.”

There was one guy (or gal) who called it. Sparrowbird. Everyone (including me) thought he was extremely annoying and out of his mind. If he put his money where his mouth was, dude must have made a fortune shorting stocks.

I wasn’t. But I’ll tell you this. And listen closely. Why hasn’t Skywest furloughed yet? You think it’s because they are planning on picking up flying? What if I told you it’s because they have no idea how many they NEED to furlough yet? They are simply waiting on their marching orders for the next 24-36 months, and then they’ll know. You probably don’t like that either. But that’s why I’m telling you, the bottom 50% at least...should have a plan B. There is an upside and in this case.... a down side to flying for so many majors when ALL of them are in dire straits. There is no way on earth Skywest or any regional for that matter is getting out of this unscathed.

You must have missed the 90 trips that populated open time in IAH.

Knowing what marching orders are for the next 24-36 months is an eternity away. 100% of airline pilots at any given time to should always have a plan B. Even when times are "good". Unscathed is a completely subjective term that is defined differently depending on a given situation.

The junior captains are wicked hiccup away from downgrade yet they are the loudest voices while the industry is on life support. 2020.

I doubt anyone expects OO to get out unscathed and also highly doubt furloughs will get even close to 50% if at all. I would like to know where you get your information, you did say you were new to SkyWest from memory? I have no idea how OO management does whatever they do in SGU, but I have to think they would already be starting the "right sizing" if they agreed with the Domino outlook given how careful they are with money, not spending considerable $ on transitioning folks (and somewhat junior FO/CA's as well) over to the ERJ if there was a high possibility of things going as far South as you say in the not too distant future.

Just my opinion anyways, fully respect you have your own.

They’ll be lucky with a downgrade, U mainline narrow body CA’s are looking at furloughs.
