It's not a necessity, but definitely nice to have. There isn't really much near the hotel on North Temple. If you want to be able to grocery shop at a nicer store than where the shuttle takes you, get a nice dinner somewhere that isn't Lofte's, or have access to many of the outdoor activities Utah has to offer, a car would be nice.

It took us to Smith's when I was there, but that was years ago. If you're in to better quality stuff, you'll have to head towards downtown to go to Harmons / Trader Joe's / Whole Foods / Sprouts. If you're not picky, Smith's is fine.

No because CTP is only one week (all in person) then I wouldn't need to be back in SLC until sim which is like a month later (indoc and ground school apparently are virtual now). My drive between SLC and my house is 2 days worth so driving doesn't seem like it's worth the hassle when I could just fly. Especially if having a car at training isn't necessary.

So what do the majority of people in training do then? Stay during the 2 weeks or fly back and forth to home?
