Just out of curiosity, how long is this time off in between? Would it be enough to take a quick trip back home and come back?
Hey guys, just wanted to come in here and give my 2 cents, I was apart of the 1st class brought back this year. First off, last year I did not drive my own vehicle so this year I did and It made a big difference in my opinion. Not having to worry about bumming rides anytime you needed to go to the grocery store was really nice plus the freedom of just being able to go out when you wanted and not having to rely on public transit or uber. Plan to do Indoc from home and then have a couple of days in between to do CBTs and commute to SLC. As long as it hasn't changed, you'll have the room to yourself at the hotel and do ground school from your hotel room and then a little bit later on you will be going to the training site to do FMS lab and the checklist trainer after you finish ground school around lunch time. You'll have a couple of days off built into the schedule you'll bid for and my advice if you can, go out and see SLC. It's a beautiful area and plenty of places to explore. I'm a food guy so here are some places you should look into if you get tired of making your own food in the hotel.
Beerhive: is the bar to go to in downtown SLC, do the Labrynth challenge for me
Redrock: Brewing is a good restaurant and brewery
Kitos: Brewing is a really good Finnish Brewery, Raspberry Wheat Beer is the best
Wasatch Brewing: another good brewery, try the polygamy porter
Ramen Legend: Some of the best ramen I've ever had (next door to wasatch, tantan is the best)
Antica Sicilia: We went here for a fancy dinner after passing ground school. They have a carbonara that will blow your socks off
Red Lotus: Some of the best chinese food (ponpon chicken) I've had in my life, Make sure you get a budda beer
Nomad South or East: Both have stupidly good pizza but east also has burgers.
Sweet Biscuits and Limeade: This is a must go to breakfast spot for some of the best breakfast (THE HOSS) you are bound to have
Lastly you need to visit Liberty park: Its a great place to find a spot, people watch, and do some studying. I always went on the weekend so I could sit up on the berm and watch all the people who were high out of there minds bang on drums and dance around like there was no tomorrow. Truly a sight to be seen
The SLC mall: Very nice indoor outdoor mall right next to the temple. Underground parking there is free for the first 2 hours so gives you plenty of access to downtown.
Good luck to everyone, glad to have you guys here.
