Timing counts for a lot in this game and the Magic 8 Ball says "Things are looking up."

On a more positive note, there are worse places to be. The past 4 years, while it would have been nice to be a CA by now, haven't been horrible. Have there been times when the company has done things to p!ss me off? Yes. Have there been times when I at least feel like I got screwed by the company? Yes. (Healthcare, stock purchase, etc.)
Unfortunately, coming from another airline previously, I can say that it happens everywhere to some extent. Overall I would say I'm happy with my job, and as one of my non-aviation friends said to me, "At least you're still getting a paycheck".
I don't know your situation, but as a second year FO (Jet line holder) if you're willing to work I know it is possible to make $50k+ and third year almost $60k, which for a single pilot is liveable in most places. (Provided you aren't living in SFO or some place like that) Probably a little harder though if you have a wife and kids. Keep in mind though this is working pretty hard also.
No idea about the Bro guys though, maybe someone who is a little more knowledgeable than me about it can chime in?
Hopefully there is some merit to the movement that is happening now and it will result in some more opportunities, I guess it's better than nothing.

From another forum:
I see upgrade opportunities on the RJ for those hired in 2006 and the early part of 2007 in the next 1-2 years. My guess for a newhire would be a 4-6 year upgrade opportunity for the Brasilia and a 7-9 year upgrade opportunity for the jet. You'll get the chance to upgrade on the jet when you reach 20% seniority as a FO so that means you need 1160 pilots in front of you to leave based on a seniority list of 2900 total pilots. If we lose an average of 12 pilots per month during your time here then you get a chance at the 8 year mark. If we lose 9 per month then you are looking at 10 years, but I think we are going to have some very healthy attrition after 2012 so I'd bank on averaging 12+ over your time at SKW as a FO.
From Jan. 2008 through Oct. 2008 I moved up an average of almost 14 spots per month, and I'm sure that hiring in 2013-2020 at the majors will be more robust than back in 2008!

But I honestly have doubts that current new-hires will see a five-year upgrade opportunity...I don't know what it will be but I think more than five years. SKW management is pretty good but I'm not sure there is much growth opportunity remaining in this industry, and SKW's costs are higher than many other regionals. This means it's all about attrition...
I know a lot of CA's (and even FO's) who swear they are staying at SKW...guys who planned to be here for 4-5 years and now it's 10+. I think there will have to be some HUGE movement at mainline to entice these guys to leave because they do not want to take a paycut to commute to NY and sit reserve on Christmas. That kind of movement could happen if all the stars line up...retirements are coming but you also need no more mainline shrinkage and no more regional outsourcing.
But like I've always said, if you take a regional job for a quick upgrade you are rolling the dice...if it doesn't work out you might be stuck in a situation you don't want to be.

Sorry Rick maybe I'm too much of a pessimist but I'm about a week or two away from 5th year pay and still have about 100 people in front of me for emb captain. Realistically I think I'm going to be on 6th and a half year pay before I see an opportunity to be an emb captain and God knows what for the jet.
