I'm usually all for telling people to take the bro. I did it myself. For someone commuting from PHX I would recommend against it though. It's almost guaranteed that a CRJ FO could transfer into TUS or maybe even PHX within the 2 year seat lock time. Also it's easier to get a transfer if you're currently on the equipment. A current CRJ FO would be put in a PHX opening before a Brasilia transition even if the Brasilia pilot is senior.
I would hate to be commuting to the Brasilia as a 2 year FO watching people junior to me get transfers into the base I live in.

Attrition's really starting to pick up at SkyWest. My FO's in the pool at United, I have a class date with US Airways and several of my friends either have interviews or class dates in the near future (AA, US, SWA, JB, UA etc).

Thanks for shedding light on the commute situation to IAH piedmonster. I had not even thought of all the non-revers out of PHX. I was just looking at flights per day between cities which is only half the battle.
Thx to the others for the info on other base options as well.
Question about the TUS base.....it's just about a 2 hour drive from my house to the airport in TUS, so I would be pushing the 2 hour call out window if on reserve, however any insight as to the trips out of that base?( As far as working your way through the system or is it mainly west coast 200 ops?)
I had not really considered DEN just because I thought it was senior, but if that's not the case and reserve could be relatively short I may bid that as well. I would for sure bid PHX just for the hell of it and the next 2 or three are fluid.

Ok and now seeing Electras post regarding PHX (right after I submitted mine) PHX may be a pipe dream for a bit.

Of course!
In all seriousness though, If OP plans on living in PHX and not moving, you are right that the CRJ is the best choice. At least given the circumstances we have today and assuming nothing else changes.

The only thing constant here is change. IAH went very junior at first, now we attract people who want to be there. Upgrade times were fast and furious when I was first hired, now it takes about seven years of seniority to hit the left seat. We hired close to 700 people in 2006-2007 and movement was brisk, before we stopped hiring for three years and nobody moved much at all. What is true today will probably no longer be accurate tomorrow. UAL keeps pushing back class dates, so attrition should increase, someday...
I can tell you what it looks like now and compare it to how it has been, but if you're just getting hired things will probably be a little different by the time you get on the line. Some things will stay true, however: PDX and SEA on the jet are unattainable for at least a few years, don't even think about it. DEN and COS are junior (at the bottom) now, it hasn't always been the case. SOCAL is attainable pretty quickly but movement is slow. TUS has shrunk significantly, it was on the ropes for awhile but has stayed open. I've been flying with the same FOs for two years who are hoping to get PHX "soon". Staffing is stupid low everywhere on the jet, so those coming on for the summer may be surprised by how much they fly/how quickly they hold a line. If you're on reserve, it isn't a stretch to say you might spend some time in the domicile you want, but as a TDY to cover for the week.
