I'm an AWAC guy. Got hired in 10 and never had to sit reserve, made right at 31k first year and on pace for 50k this year. I try to block on the high side and pick up trips at premium pay and still get 12-14 days off a month and commutability on one end.

It wouldnt. Those guys would be offered new hire positions on the ERJ side and be on first year pay until one contract and seniority list are finalized in say 2+ years on the low side.

Yeah I'm fairly new at Expressjet (ERJ side obviously). My only real fear at this point is that ASA loses some more flying and a few hundred of their guys opt to come over to this side. Don't get me wrong I wish only the best for our brothers but the idea of having a ton of guys start underneath me who will all the sudden jump me in seniority a year or two down the road is unappealing to say the least. I'm not saying its unfair - we are one company and they were here first. But, I'm poised to move up rapidly in seniority this year with our hiring spurt and from a self-interest perspective it would suck to know that some huge chunk of them will jump ahead of me one day. In fact, part of the reason i dropped a higher paying gig and took on a commute was because I it looked like things were moving fast here. Anyway, can't worry about it now, and frankly I think if ASA was going to furlough they would have done it already with flying likely to pick up in the spring and summer. But... Who knows?
Anyway I really hope for everyone's good that the CRJ side can find a way to expand with a decent contract from someone in the near future and everyone will be happy .

ORF a junior base, I would plan on being there for a bit, although you could probably get rsv at any other base, it would take longer to get a line though.

skywest...
Can someone quantitate Take home pay year 1 and 2 for all three airlines?
1st year pay at skw is 22/hr regardless of aircraft. With per diem I guess you can expect low 20's for first year and upper 30's 2nd year. Ball parked of course.
How are the Health Benefits for a family of three? (currently pay 644$/month)
Single with no kids here so I'm not sure. I've heard a ton of complaints from people with families though.
What's reserve like? Can you pick up a bunch of flying to augment year one pay? Or is this frowned on? Is there long call?
Best case scenario, in domicile reserve can be okay. Normal reserve is a different story. They own you and aren't afraid to let you know. I've seen quite a few pilots quit over this. Keep in mind we have NO real contract. Our "policy manual" is never adhered to so they will abuse the hell out of you however they see fit.
Picking up extra flying is allowed on your days off only. There is long call but they can and will convert you to short call if it benefits them. There is a limit to how many times a month they can do it, but I don't remember what it is. It's not pilot friendly.
What are the Jr. Bases? Are there cheap crash pad options?
I'm kind of guessing but I think junior RJ bases are MSP, and IAH at the moment. FAT for the EMB. No idea about crash pads, sorry.
What's your guess for the time spent at the bottom of the list? How long before I could hold a line?
Crystal ball question. I keep hearing were going to hire more in a few months but who the hell knows in this industry. The best advice I can give you on this is accept the FIRST aircraft they offer. You're 121, you know the drill on seniority. If you pass up an EMB class just to wait for an RJ class then you could lose quite a few seniority numbers by the time that class becomes available
Sadly I don't even know very much about trip/duty rigs...AWAC has 2:1 (I think) which means 2 hours on duty gets you 1 hour pay right? What's a trip rig (4:1)?
Does Expressjet/skywest have them?
I don't remember.
Any chance at upgrade any time?
You funny guy. I started in 07 on the emb. Some of my classmates are just now starting to upgrade. Since you have PIC 121 time though then you could get it sooner if hiring really took off. However, I don't see that happening and you'd be on reserve the rest of your life. okay not really but it would seem that way. Reserve life at skywest SUCKS ASS. I know captains that have been here 6+ years that are bidding the right seat just to get their life back.
I've heard that awac's contract with US is up in 2015(?) what will happen after that? Does everyone think they will renew?
They will get a contract with Fed-Ex and will live like kings.
What's the validity of the rumored Den base for Expressjet?
*shrug*
I know some of these are not black and white issues...And my presentation is probably a little disorganized but any information will help.
Thanks in advance!
