Had SIM today to do my ATP/TYPE and AQP. The word from the instructors is that they want to do a lot of hiring this summer.

However they do feel there will be a lot of former 121 folks to choose from. They told me they are very unlikely to hire someone right now who can not meet ATP mins. At the very least someone who will meet it by the 2013 deadline. But more likely they are looking for new hires to ATP and type in initial.

Good luck. Things just got harder for the 1000 CFI.

On base seniority, check out the post by PiedMonster, mid-way down the page.

I paraphrased, but this part is bad info. Our minimums are 1000TT. We just hired and continue to hire pilots with less than ATP mins. With high time guys/gals on the street, sure it's more competitive, but we are just as likely to hire someone with 1000T as we were in the past.

As for holding a line, your looking at 3-4 months minimum on reserve for the jet.

Just passing on what I heard in SIM. Good to know and for their sake I hope your Intel is better than mine.

Are all new hires still going to the EMB? Or are some classes going to the CRJ?

You know I was just thinking about that today. Been hearing numbers 300-500 before Aug 2013. With PNCL unloading 400+ that will help fill that void. By the time they run out of 121 guys it will be closer to the deadline that the CFI's will need an ATP.

What's to say all those guys go to Skywest? Lol. I bet more than a couple find work elsewhere.

For the time being. A 1000 hour pilot hired today should be able to reach ATP mins prior to Aug 2013. But at some point later this year they will have to start considering how a new-hire will get to 1500 hours.

Some reserve pilots might not fly much, but they can always mitigate that by making them call first, or even displacing lineholders if staffing permits.

I suspect in Dec our mins will need to be 1100, Jan 1200, Feb 1300, etc. They also can't set themselves to be giving 200 additional sim events/ATP rides in the last weeks of Jul 2013.
