Yup. It was super embarrassing. I could hardly look anyone in the face. SMH, it's not like they give you a badge that says cadet. Who freakin' cares. With everything going on in the regional game, this is the least thing I would be embarrassed about.

No. They call a trainee a cadet. Because that is the definition of a cadet; a trainee. Typically used to depict a trainee in a military program, but certainly not limited to that.
Pretty much describes every single one of us, eh? But I is NOT ashamed!

What's your point here? The "Cadet" program Is a recruitment program SkyWest Airlines has established in an effort to target students/CFI's at certain Pt. 141 schools. I currently have friends in the program and apart from giving you high seniority in class along with travel bennies, there isn't much to it. Par for the course with the many other recruiting programs most of the regionals have setup. I'm sure ExpressJet has something similar setup, but just call it something different.

Cadet program was cool.
It doesn't do much for you; you don't do much in return.
No commitment. If you decide to go somewhere else they don't care.
-hire date helps with commuting and your healthcare/retirement/profitsharing benefits kick in right away while others have to wait. That's probably the best benefit.
-you'll be front of the class so you can choose your sim location/time/get your choice of base before everyone else in class
As far as travel for the original post.... Just go mainline (and just go>90 days from class) they have no way of seeing if you are a cadet as long as you don't bring unwarranted attention. I never did mainline but I know lots of guys that did.

Paying your own way to an interview to get a higher seniority number in class sounds like a ****ty deal. I assume this is not the case if you are eligible for an ATP right away, right?
I suppose any effort to drawstring in new hires helps keep classes full. Skywest has set up recruitment tables at Horizon crew hotels - have they done this for other carriers?
