Other than that, these cadet programs have a perceived value for CFIs that want to go to the regionals.

Oh! Kind of like the flows at Envoy!

Doh!! Did I just say that?!

Kidding of course ... I realize SW cadets actually DO get hired, lol.

Envoy Pipelines do get hired, they only don't get seniority until they are sitting at basic indoc.

I suppose any effort to drawstring in new hires helps keep classes full. Skywest has set up recruitment tables at Horizon crew hotels - have they done this for other carriers?
A couple of guys I know are in the cadet program. You don't pay for anything. Skywest covers two nights in a hotel room for the interviews. Buys you lunch, show you around the airplanes in the maintenance hangar, and have a few pilots meet with you and talk to you about what it's like at Skywest. Then once you come back the second time you have an actual interview with sim, technical, and hr. Also the cadets in my class got single occupancy rooms through training.

Interesting the OP paid for tickets yet everyone else on here says you get positive spaced.

Nada.

Now that's embarrassing.
I don't think embarrassing is the right word.

It's the company's way of subsidizing new hire compensation...creatively.

If they're not on the seniority list, SAPA has no responsibility or bargaining authority for them.

If the company just kept raising new hire pay, the old hires would throw a fit eventually.

"Embarrassing" implies old hires might be valued assets. Actually any regional pilot much over 8 years is a liability. They'd much rather you leave so they can bring in some low-paid noobs who will always answer a 435 area code call. If you can get hired by a major, cool. If not you can go back to driving truck for all they care...just get the hell off their payroll.

Not trolling here, but what is the implication of them unilaterally giving Cadets better benefits when they become new hires?
