Except you're automatically "call first" if OBR and they will abuse you. If not flying, you'll get stuck with airport reserve.

You sure? Day four of four OBR and I haven't heard a peep

Drums4life 10-11-2016 12:54 PM

It's still seniority based for OBR except for the first day.

The planners have already said they are going to build Delta 175 pairings out of SFO.

I read somewhere that Skywest was considering hiring part time pilots? Does anyone know if that occurred or if any other 121 programs hire part timers?

WesternSkies 10-12-2016 10:32 AM

They are not hiring part time pilots.
The idea was to allow a certain percentage of the senority list bid down below the current full time hourly requirement losing company paid benifets like the FAs do.

It was met with anger from guys who.....want to work less. Amazing I know.

Good info, thanks EFB.

I have Thanksgiving as well as Dec 22nd-Jan 6th off with my current employer but will hit ATP mins late this month, so I'm trying to decide when I should make the switch. I guess I could always request a Jan class date but as you all know, seniority is everything.
I'm hoping for CRJ/PHX off the bat, could do CRJ/DEN where my home is as long as the commute isn't awful. Reading the thread it sounds like MSP/DTW is inevitable for a few months:cool:

Yes, seniority is everything, but spending time with family/friends for the holidays is more important in my opinion. Not to mention seniority here is moving at a pretty good pace, a month or two wont make too much difference. CRJ in DEN and PHX are attainable if not right away, within a few months. I was assigned MSP in sims and never stepped foot there as I bid for a transfer to ORD and got it right away.

Caveat emptor.

1 month was once the difference between me being a line holding captain vs being on reserve for 2 1/2 years.

Weigh carefully. The environment may look good now, but it can change in the blink of an eye.

Get a clue slick. This idea would be great for the very senior guys who could drop down.

It would be great for the company because highly paid senior guys would block less and be off benefits.

Mid and junior seniority peeps would take it in the shorts covering the flying dropped by the seniors.
