correct. bypassed at any other airline means "someone jr to me got the position I wanted" say I'm a CRJ FO DEN and I bid ERJ FO DEN.

Some ERJ FO ORD guy gets a transfer into DEN. anywhere else that would be breaking seniority and a bypass. here it isn't.

It's only a bypass if someone is bidding the same thing as you.

Example: CRJ FO DEN bidding number 2000 seniority. Bid CRJ CA DEN. Spot opens up, CRJ CA MSP number 2300 gets the spot.
You were not bypassed per skywest rules. Transitions and upgrades take a backseat to transfers. You are only bypassed if someone jr to you got awarded the upgrade. Period. End of Story. "that's the way we've always done it"

That being said, VD did use those exact words with my email. EVERY CRJ FO WILL BE BYPASSED ON THIS ROUND.

The more interesting question is what can we do about it? I am not defending SAPA here but they often seem to have zero leverage. They can make all the proposals they want but if the company says no - it is no.

So we better make sure we use what leverage we have. If they want to open up repo flights for non 121 guys. Maybe it is worth considering if we get something else. I am more worried about SAPA being "too nice" and agreeing to something without getting something meaningful in return.

But I don't even know if the pilot group is aligned of what that something else is.

I have never worked for any other shop. But it seems to be far from perfect with pretty much any other regional judging from some of the other posts on here.

Pilot group doesn't care. I fly with guys all the time whose only mission is to get to the overnight and go to sleep. The trending topics on SAPA forums are why the company doesn't clean the shoulder harnesses, why cs uses the word holla, virgin America been sold and service animals. Nobody cares about the stuff that matters. This is truly a 'get in and get out asap' airline just like compass, Mesa and the rest.

In the same breath ppl will complain about crj staffing levels, that they can't drop or flying too many hours. The reality is until those levels are up the company can't afford two ppl in training (new hire and transition). As can be seen by the last DVR they are working on crj levels. I'm not on the koolaid but I can understand the company not wanting to take a performance hit so you can fly a new jet, if they say you're bypassed and they pay you the difference is that such a kill ? Pairings have always gone up and down in value so that's not a excuse

And it's not just the money. Some people are getting skipped for upgrade. Where they could be building pic.

Maybe someone wants to transition to get a nice 7 week vacation while waiting for IOE. Maybe they want to have that high QOL that all the 175 pilots brag about. Having to fly trips so they can get their 100 in 90, while the CRJ folks are getting 90+ each month. If there are no openings, then yeah they don't need to transition anyone. But to prove how worthless the DVR is, you mean to tell me that we really need 226 175 FO's for ORD? Even though the March RSR report only showed 183 FO's? And with 183 FO's for March, that was 50% reserve coverage? Okay we have too many 175 pilots and we can't transition any. That means that we should not have any new hire classes for the 175 until all transitions are fulfilled.

Plus the CRJ folks are getting the double whammy with transitions and upgrades. SW needs the Captains so they won't do the FO transitions. Maybe we should start hiring street CA to reduce training events? What's the difference?

I'm sorry but I don't think that management are the victims here. They are the ones that needed to hire more for 117 but didn't want to increase their costs. They are the ones that continually shoot down easy fixes because it may creep into someones fiefdom. They finally realized the cost savings of having appropriate staffing, but it comes at a time where majors are finally hiring, FO's can get better pay and QOL at LCC's, and people who spent any time on reserve are so bitter that they will literally jump at the first opportunity to move on (ie something besides a major)

I really hope they figure it out because I want them to be successful. I am just smart enough to realize that past behavior usually indicates future behavior. And past behavior shows that SW will continue to take on as much flying as they can and force that flying on a dwindling CRJ pilot group.

Any other airline follows the method I outlined.

If I bid captain Denver, and some guy Jr to me gets Denver captain because he happened to be in the captain seat in Minnie already, it is still a bypass.

Or how about pdx guys who try to get out of crj CA to erj CA (even in ORD) and get bypassed? Happens everyday. Open your eyes.

There's zero transitions for certain bases and seats but I've yet to hear or see anything about upgrades getting bypassed. You weren't qualified to fill that vacancy in DEN so it went to someone who could fill it right away. The work around is take the first upgrade into whatever base you can and then worry about transferring to another base later. It's not how it should be, but that's the way the company sees it and I doubt it'll ever change. The blame game can't just be pointed at one side or the other it's everyone's fault.
