What are you doing to make your application more competitive in the meantime? Are you going after the job you want, or waiting for it to come to you?

Well I have become a line check airman and hold a high level volunteer safety position with my airlines MEC. What else do you suggest I do? What did you do? Kinda disingenuous to infer that those of us on the outside aren't humping to get on the inside.

I have nine submissions, all Closed Complete but one.
I have extensive volunteer work with my community both current, and regularly since college (well over a decade ago), volunteer positions within several companies I've worked for, a masters degree, undergrad from a leading 141 university, Boeing experience, international experience, yada yada yada.
Have my app in to be a check airman, but hasn't happened yet.
I went to the last in house job fair and it was great. I left feeling like I had the job. I've had a professional app review, and it's been reviewed by Southwest employees. I am literally trying to do everything I can. I'm not just waiting for the call for my dream job......

Not trying to be disingenuous at all. It's a legit question that I had to ask myself as I waited over 6 years for SWA to finally call me. It sounds like you're doing good things to increase your 'score'. Have you had anyone else look over your app for mistakes you may have overlooked? How often do you update your flight times? How many job fairs have you been to where you could speak one-on-one with a recruiter?
There was nothing magical that changed in my profile that finally resulted in the invite after doing all of the above for years on end, so maybe patience is the key. Not sure how long you've been applying, but it might just take some time.

I mean, I'm just sitting on my ass eating bon-bons, but I'm sure SWA will knock on my door with the red carpet rolled out any day now...

It sounds like you're doing everything in your control as well. It's just a matter of time...like I said to the guy above, it took several years for me to get the call. 5 of those years were waiting AFTER I got my 737 type rating...

Have you gents done any sort of application review? It might be a small price to pay to ensure your application is done right and all your i’s are dotted, t’s crossed.
It’s not a live person that pulls your application out of the stack. A computer does it after screening it for their predetermined markers. Only then does your app get seen by a live person.
I’ve done reviews for some friends and you’d be surprised how many small errors I found, and those errors just might be enough to not get your app selected by the computer despite you otherwise having fantastic qualifications.
It’s a multi-million dollar career. It might be worth paying someone to go over your app.

Patience, patience, patience is all I keep telling myself. Unless a comparative competitor comes calling first (which I hope doesn’t happen).

Reviewed by a SWA pilot recruiter (outside of the job fair), by a consulting firm ($150), and by several SW pilots. “Just a matter of time....” Meanwhile I keep losing years of seniority numbers.

I’m sorry. I know how frustrating it can be. That’s why you always go with whoever calls first.
As I said, I’ve done some reviews and maybe we all got lucky when my friends were called afterward... From my own experience, it’s little things that get omitted or are incomplete. For example, one of them had gaps in employment of more than 30 days that weren’t accounted for. That’s enough for a computer to screen you out. I won’t go into the whole flight time grid and errors associated with that.
The best thing you can do is present yourself with the most complete and accurate app, keep updating it and then let the chips fall as they may.
