Zap, check this out...
January 2021 is 28 months away.
11660 - 9560 = 2100 pilots difference.
2100 pilots over 28 months = 75 new pilots per month to meet that goal assuming zero retirements, medicals, etc. That's essentially 3 classes a month average.
Roughly 360 mandatory retirement guys between now and then. Let's add and call it 2500 pilots just to stick to round figures.
2500 over 28 months = 89 pilots give or take per month or just under 30 average per class. It does sound a tad ambitious. But note what they're saying out of GO and how they want to expand the just-finished sim building as we've apparently outgrown it already.
Personally, I do think you'll be able to hold captain in the first half of 2021 somewhere in the system barring any 9/11-type event, a merger or a major economic downturn.
The big question is, how junior is LAX captain gonna go with its 6-month base lock?

I generally play around with the numbers and try to use an average going forward. 3-4 percent is fairly safe and would account for a hiring slow down at some point either due to economic reasons or internal reasons. I assume at that point, the upgrades will also start trending towards the 55 percent range.
Looking at aircraft deliveries going forward, you have to assume that we are going to grow at a glacial clip for the next few years, anyway, even if many of those acquisitions are for 700 retirements.
I just flew a China Eastern 700 on my last trip that we have owned for less than 3 months (the cigarette tar stains on the overhead panel are a dead giveaway), so we are still slowly acquiring used airplanes as well.

Plug Cptn before the new contract hovered at 58% and after the contract it’s been 60% relative seniority. I’m assuming because even more FOs are now unwilling to give up QOL and feel they make enough money in the right seat.
FWIW, I did hear that the older -700s were not holding up as well as the -300s at a year for year comparison/snapshot in their life. Some of those 20 year old -700s are getting pretty tired.

Yes, and speaking of the sim building.....we have 18 sims up and running with room for 8 more with the current building configuration, right? Why the hell are they looking to push the one wall out even further and put in even more than 24 sims?!
I’ve heard the same thing on line that they’re looking to expand the sim building even further than the 24 sim bay capacity it has now. Seriously.....why?!

I’d rather keep from being moved up a month every year but that’s my opinion.
I’d have to think long and hard about taking LAX for upgrade with the associated seat lock. An extra $100k/yr might make the commute worth it....or not. 😂

The future planned expansion of the LEAD Training Center includes 8 additional sim bays for a grand total of 26 sims. I’ve been told the company is accelerating plans to extend the building, but I don’t know when that expansion will break ground.
