Nope! No way Jose. Just think how many FO’s lose out on a good line simply on account of one douchebag? And then do you want to have some new guy just barely hanging on to the tail flying with someone like that because you’re being a pansy? Hell no!

Zap, you gotta man up and throw it right back in their face in no uncertain terms, and then point blank ask them if they want to play this game over the next 3 days, or if they wanna have a nice, mellow, easy-going next 3 days. The ball is entirely in their court.

The point of the exercise is for them to realize that you won’t tolerate their BS and shall stand your ground. And secondly, open their eyes that they’re being called on their behavior and you won’t subject some newbie to this abuse either. You also need to be able to clearly differentiate between insubordination (a big no-no) and abuse. With bullies, it’s easy.

Every single bully I’ve encountered in my career has backed down and we had a good trip afterwards. At Southwest, I’ve flown with two, and as I said, things were worked out by the end of the second leg and ended up being good trips.

I'm not at SWA, but I once did ask an FO to put me on her "no-fly" list. When she became a captain she was on almost every FOs "no-fly" list.
I only wrote up three FOs. Two were just horrible pilots and had no business in aviation, and no longer are as they couldn't make the transition from turboprops to jets. This one... was just all around horrible. Bad pilot. Nasty person. When SWA had the crash at LGA I double checked the name to make sure it wasn't the same person.
I've come to the conclusion that every airline has "that pilot".

Any specific behavioral examples that makes a captain "undesirable"? My bigger beef is how the other pilot treats everybody outside of the cockpit. My biggest concern was when a captain whispered sweet nothings to his(could be her, just not my experience) wife(or husband as far as I know) on the phone, was always considerate to other pilots, but was an ******* to the cabin and/or ground crew when stressed. Made me wonder how that person would react if stressed in flight...

You simply just won't know until faced with said situation. I've seen rock stars become quivering mounds and full ret@#%s morph into Superman.

Everybody thinks they know exactly how they'll react. Truth is, nobody knows. Myself included.

I’ve never encountered someone flat out mean. I’ve flown w the occasional lack of personality guy. Hell once we get over the initial bs of where have you been what did you do etc, I’m pretty boring to talk to unless it is about beer or politics.

Yet... They do nothing to remedy the situation.

I agree. No one on my list either. Plus, I almost never fly my awarded trip with the original captain anyway. I do too much trading.

That’s a blessing. I too have no one listed. Most pros can weather a single trip...but a month can be a true test with a real no-fly list member.

Fortunately, at this level of the game most weirdness of the major kind has been either dealt with or is in the minority of major issues.

That being said, there are still plenty of tools in the shed, some a little more dull than others.
