Yeah, there’s no doubt that the DEN is the best around. It’s awesome. We are definitely spoiled. It’s caused some friction with some FA’s that we changed our door locks to pilot ID readers, they can’t sneak into the sleep room anymore. But that’s about our biggest negative. We even have the “good” ice in our ice maker. The views are incredible, even if there’s an occasional Eskimo face in the way.
Tell the FAs that we are still hiring pilots and they should submit their app during the next window. Pilot training is only 6 weeks!

It takes me 50 minutes to get from The Woodlands, TX to Hobby. I take the toll roads, 99 and Hardy to 610 then 45. I never met anyone that says it takes anything close to 2 hours. I actually have lived many places in the USA and I for one love the Houston area. I don’t mind the heat but then again I have a pool. As for flooding not many areas in The Woodlands flooded. I was here during Harvey and we didn’t get it as bad as other people did in other parts. Any SWA base you move to is better then commuting for the rest of your career. I was a commuter for the majority of my career and I will tell you moving into any base will make it feel like a different job.

Thanks Zman. How do you like the Woodlands? Any regrets? I've been moving around my whole career so far so I'd like to pick a spot and stick with it at least until my kids are older (5 and 1). So we are trying to pick something good on the first go. Do you think it fits the bill?

Any insight into other bases would be great though!

Orlando is easy to get as an FO. Forever to get as cpt as they all move there to retire etc.
LAX if you dont mind the taxes.
DEN surprisingly has good winters with over 300 days of sun a year. Beaches are a hike though.
If that's your criteria I'd say HOU is a good choice.

We asked “what base should we move to” question about a year ago. Was living in SoCal and the LAX base was coming but the traffic, taxes, costs, and middle class squeeze were getting very old.
We ended up moving to Dallas and are very happy for a multitude of reasons. Cost of living, schools, safe, good climate, lakes, good people.
The logistics of the base are pretty good too. Parking is convenient and reasonable. Traffic obviously depends on where you live but it’s not an issue for me. The trips are so so but whatever, not young and single anyway.
