Last I remember EWR is not an AA base, and who knows how many 737's fly out of JFK? Exactly how much coverage are you talking about when you mention "covering those bases?"

What is the time to hold MCO Captain?
I was based in LGA for 5 years. The crash pads aren’t near anything interesting unless you take a bus. There’s only so much Airways Pizza one can take before you start contemplating life decisions.

I’d take OAK over NYC because it’d save me 4 hrs round trip commuting and if you want to work at SWA you likely won’t sit around. So crashpad isn’t needed, just the occasional hotel.

When I was based in LGA (it’s been over 4 years so I’m sure much has changed), there were many AA pilots sitting in the crashpad *****ing about having to cover all 3 airports. Same with the DL guys in the house.

If you want to give someone a realistic upgrade time offer a range or toss out the base awarded so people can make a educated decision. It’s like people saying AA has a 1 yr upgrade (which was true on the 190). It was 1 yr for a reason. Same as the MD-88 at DAL. People do quit jobs for quicker career progression. At least give them the whole picture is all I’m saying.

Our upgrade will prob drop to the 6-8 yr range once we get to the 2 yr hiring gap. Currently is 8-10 depending upon on where the vacancies are (people in BWI aren’t bidding on west coast and vice versa). West coast is most Jr in both seats. The Max has everything messed up so things are off until it gets back online.

lol. If I have the choice between the company offering the 3 year upgrade in NYC or the company offering the 10 year upgrade in Oakland...(especially if I’ve only got 10 -15 years of earning potential)

Dude, it’s awesome that you love your airline, but come on.

Nope - Captains are underpaid.

I didn’t come here for the upgrade. I came for QOL. I drive to work.

I won’t bid anything unless it has me starting my workday driving there. I won’t commute again. That is worth more to me than $75k and never seeing my family. If you’re single or hate your family....then maybe LGA rsv and a commute might be appealing. FWIW, a 4th yr FO here can clear 200k+ pretty easily living in base and only be gone from home 8-10 nights.

A 10 yr FO can easily clear 300k. Different strokes for different folks.

Not saying 3 yrs to the left seat is at all a bad thing. Just don’t toss it into the ether without giving more info. It’s not 3 yrs anywhere but 1 place. And it went that junior for a very good reason.

Maybe when the max comes back, as of right now it’s slim pickings and yes I have my line tuner set up!

Bologna. We are still going to be WAY overmanned even when the MAX comes back.

There's no way you can make those numbers just flying your line here. You must pick up extra if you wanna get anywhere close to what you're presenting. Right now I can't pick up anything in my base. I've been trying and literally bidding on everything I'm legal for and pays at least 5tfp a day. 0 extra for me since November. I know it's all driven by MAX and over stuffing, but we also have to present the reality the way it is. I agree with you, the QOL is the key for me to. However, having options is good even if you won't jump on one, others may. Right now Southwest pilots are out of options while others have them. Hopefully it changes soon, but until then all we can do is wait and fly our lines.

id like to know what your definition of “easily” is. No way on Earth does a FO at SWA easily clear $300K according to my definition.

To clear $200K these days of min line guarantee requires regularly picking up extra flying. Clearing $300K would require much luck and much, much extra flying and much free time time devoted to hawking over our scheduling program, CWA.

yeah. This reflects a lack of balance in pay.

I don’t understand why you keep saying this. It’s not like I threw out a E190 upgrade. It’s a 737 CA position, the most JR one, yes in NYC. It’s like me asking you about upgrade time at SWA, but don’t give me that OAK reserve crap! I’d never bid it. That how you sound. Btw I was based in NYC for awhile too. Most captains I flew with drove to work from NJ, CT, up state and even nyc. So believe it or not, some people actually live in that region, and would be euphoric to bid that status and fly 30 hours a month, or bid long call and maybe fly a bit more.
