That kinda hoses everyone who put in early and now don’t have a chance to see how it will effect their seniority.

i think you might be misinterpreting the email. The way I read it it’s just like monthly bidding. Award out on the 21st then a 24 protest period (like the email said in case of any clerical errors) and then the final award on the 23rd.

Not sure why seniority would matter. If you take VSP who cares how many people above or below you took it. And the seven day withdraw period only applied to VSP.

You’re right, I’m getting ExTO and VSP logic confused. If your leaving for good it doesn’t matter who else is going.

Seniority post-VSP could be a factor, but we're talking about the top of the FO list who aren't really VSP candidates. Still...

An older FO who can't upgrade now (or who may never upgrade) but who might be able to upgrade if VSP and EXTO results in a huge CA/FO imbalance, might choose to stick around, upgrade, and spend a few years on the CA scale before retirement. If that same older FO isn't going to get close to the upgrade cut after VSP though, he/she might decide to take VSP, go home and get another job.

It's just one more what-if or course, and it probably applies to... maybe...? a dozen FOs who are both senior AND old enough that they weren't counting on spending much (or any) time in the left seat anyhow?

Not entirely true. A hypothetical 60 yr old FO who's been here only 5-6 years *might* see it as a decision point. Take VSP and get another job, or stick around (maybe even take EXTO) and possibly get a couple years in the left seat if enough CAs leave?

Don’t count on upgrading if there is a large imbalance of Captains and FOs due to ExTO. SWA will just recall Captains from ExTO so they don’t have to upgrade. Now an imbalance due to VSP is a different story.

Wonder how junior we will see the VSP go? I could make a case for a young guy at the bottom of the list taking the deal. 87k per year for 5 years is a nice insurance policy to keep his family afloat.

I know someone taking VSP and he was a July 2017 hire.

If that person is 60 it's 105k a year for next 5 years, free. That's not a stupid move in my opinion. One has to work really hard to make that kind of money. Plus, if things go south, you make youself safe from a furlough. Good for him/her!

Junior with age...it’s a great deal. Most likely prior service to boot.

Company says it will take all of them...good luck to all that get it! Maybe we will move up more than one number next month.

VSP also protects from furlough while EXTO does not. I know people looking at corporate gigs that are 150-180K. Add the VSP or ETO to it and it's not too bad for a 2017-2019 FO over 55.
