I'm not saying they shouldn't get paid what the demand states or what they can negotiate but they cant do doubles so its 6 hrs a day and home every night. That's pretty good pay for also not having to have a medical. I think that's my point. At any time a pliot can lose his career and livelihood. An instructor has an easier time keeping his non medical required job.

You’ve got enough people signing up to be SW pilots yet not sim instructors. Therefore they raised pay. Surprised all the guys up in arms about instructors being compensated well.
Because they're not signing for $2B in liability every time they step into the sim, risking possible death, and aren't responsible for the lives of 181 people? Because they're not working 16 hour duty days (they're limited to 7)? Because they're not gone half the month, unless they commute, which is DEFINITELY a choice in the circumstance? Because they are quite possibly NOT qualified to fly the airplane (a medical certificate is by definition a qualification, which is also part of why our compensation package is what it is)?

And before you say it's harder than a typical flight, I've been a sim instructor, and under cqt it is definitely MORE work than a regular flight, it is not harder, as it's all scripted out. Also, before you say that they're responsible for the person and anything they ever do, that responsibility falls on the APD/check airman.

Does SWA not have any seniority list instructors? Seems like most places have a mix of seniority list and non seniority list instructors with actual pilots on the seniority list doing checking events.

SWAPA Check Airman do the checking, otherwise it’s TWU instructors doing the sim instruction, their contract has scope that prevents line pilots from instructing in the sim.

Line pilots do other forms of instruction, devices, GS, etc.

A few months ago the company “hired” former instructors as “pilots” and sent them right back into the sim. So, a member of both unions at once I guess?

If the company wants knowledgeable, experienced instructors they need to disband the concept and just use seniority list guys. The product as it stands now is very inconsistent.

Why? Separate work groups with separate work scope. You get what you negotiate.

This “no sim guy should make more than me!” thing comes off the same as the VP of Hot cups and Toilet Paper being mad that line swine can make more than the execs do (by sucking up premium). Sour grapes.

Tell SWAPA that the bar for new hires is now higher than the minimum the company is paying sim bubbas and let them do with that what they will.

Tell SWAPA the bar needs to be hire for everyone. 1st and 2nd year is SWA problem. I agree you get what you say yes to. Our group likes to lag.

That is for sure . So far all the proposals from the company are pay cuts, and now they want to take away everyone’s earned sick bank. We will be lucky to get a new contract with only a 30 percent pay cut .
