Default New hire question

The commuter policy is the commuter policy, however...

I have been commuting for 8+ years here and have never, ever been asked to verify or even had anyone question anything concerning my commute. I have skirted and outright blown the policy off in the name of common sense and convenience. Even then, scheduling just wants to know if you are making it or not. Just don't no show or be an idiot or lie and you will be fine. They want a pilot in the seat and if one isn't going to be there, they want to know about it.

Your ace in the hole is calling sick or fatigued. It is much easier to do that and go home from your commuter airport than to play "let's catch up to the trip" and lose pay while you jump through your a$s.

The only commutes I have missed here have been due to cancellations or long delays.

As your lawyer, I cannot tell you to not abide by the letter of the contract, but I can tell you that in practice, it's not something that is rigidly enforced. Just don't be stupid and ruin it for everyone.

The “woe-is-me, please help us” emails are a little rich after watching scheduling play bait and switch with the people generous enough to pick up open time. I found it downright sickening.

This has always been my number one complaint. Volunteering to pick up additional flying on my day off does not constitute my tacit approval to forgo ALL of my days off. Any additional flying they want a pilot to do while flying an open time award should be VOLUNTARY, and preceded by a polite request.

I know a guy who "helped out" one more leg after being told that it would only be that leg then done. Finishes leg and then gets rerouted for 3 more., instantly calls in fatigued.
that's how its gotta start going if they continue to abuse the good will.

All those emails are is a bat-signal to the PHX and DAL iPhone holster brigade to get off their couches and come to work so they can tell every reserve FO they fly with that they "got me some premium".
Those guys may not have any idea SWAPA elections are coming up, but they read their company emails, by golly.

Sorry if asked/answered already but how soon after day one do flight benefits become available for eligible family? I mean I know they are technically from day one but do they process the paperwork for eligible travelers that fast?
