Good points RJ. For a west coast guy I get through there often. We have a huge presence there. Is SWA paying a portion of the expansion? Article didn’t say. Gates are prime real estate and long term rent/lease can be negotiated favorably if an airline chips in for the expansion cost.
BNA as a recruiting tool? Maybe. 2000 hires next year is insane. That’s roughly 190 people per base.
I get the feeling SWA wants to announce something. It’s been 5 yrs since Hawaii was announced.

As the previous poster alluded to, there will undoubtedly be SOME sort of announcement. There always is. It may be a new paint job, a new inflight snack or beverage, a new HQ building, Canada in 2025, or some other surprise that will have GO folks wearing SWA themed sunglasses and waving flags losing their sh!t.
I know I have relayed this story before, but I had a buddy who went to the last BNA rally. He was there live-streaming it over the phone Toy Story birthday party style. He was sitting in the opry surrounded by a bunch of crew who were drinking out of hip flasks and waiting for the big base opening announcement.
When Gary got done and started taking questions, someone asked him directly about it. His look of confusion told it all. He didn't care. It wasn't even on his radar. He just loved music and had always dreamed about playing on the stage there. It was a vanity event for HIM.
After much cursing and sadness, the crew members all gathered their stuff and left.

"Woooooooo!!!!! Thank you Southwest Warriors for the most epic recovery. We are so profitable and awesome that we are resuming the stock buybacks. And this is all thanks to you and your Warrior Spirit. THANK YOU!"
Outstanding contracts won't even be an afterthought... BNA base? Oh, the gullibility...
