Thank you. I didn't know that. Gate agents always ask for my passport so I assumed it was required.

CASS is required to get in the cockpit. CASS must include verification of passport. Not required for the back of the good jet.

There is a procedure in our OPS Binder that deals with this situation. Now, if the CSA knows this procedure, that is a different question. I would arrive early at the gate to give yourself plenty of time in case there are holdups. Good Luck!
As an other airline pilot, I do not have acces to the OPS binder. When I list for the JS on SWA, at the gate, 100% of the time they will not process me without my full passport. Does not matter if there's seats open in the back. DL, passport card do not work. Not complaining, and always have my passport with me. Just what happens in the real world.

CASS does not require passport. SWA does. I JS on WN, NK, UA, or F9 every time I go to and from work for 10 years now. Did DL and AA too. UA either gov ID or tell them your birthday. DL & AA gov ID. Nk & F9 just company ID. SWA, full passport or no go, regardless of up front or in the back. Maybe it is not the rule, but it is the reality.....

Really though, does it matter? We all have our passports on us all the time anyway.

OK fair enough, I guess there are some niche situations that it does matter. I just can't see an airline changing their manuals/policies for rare instances this might arise.

Indeed, that would be an issue 2 weeks out of every 10 years although you could go to a passport agency and have it done same day. Fairly certain most companies even pay for that.

Buy a Zed fare. Ditch the clown suit, board with no necessity to talk to the plumbers up front, have a few beers and take a nap
