Well anyhow there'll be one happy pilot out there tomorrow because I'm headed to UAL instead. Will inform SWA tomorrow so at least one person who thought their class was cancelled, can have my spot...

It's not due to a slow down in attrition. There was a slow down in attrition because no one was going to leave when they are about to get a retro check. Now that the retro's are out attrition is going to pick back up some. The contract is indeed good. But other airlines are still retiring a lot of pilots and have a lot of expansion plans at their hubs and new airplanes being delivered to accomodate that. SWA still hasn't accelerated the upgrade time. Even if other airlines slow down a bit they are still going to have faster career progression than SWA.
Another thing to consider too is that other airlines got new contracts and their hiring numbers may have dipped a bit but they still need a lot of pilots. We no longer need any for 2024. So why is that? Well, its because SWA isn't expanding. Furthermore SWA leadership really hasn't displayed a vision to expand like the others have. Any plans this airline could make to do anything big would take 3 times longer than other airlines because of the logistics and infastructre needed to carry it out.
It's all that and relying too much on the MAX.
But you are right about the retirements. Those are incredibly slow in comparison to the other airlines.
