My point was that a corporate raider's flexibility might get inhibited by .gov if it was looking to significantly screw up air travel capacity. They might get stuck with a white elephant, and no way to squeeze blood from the stone.
Your examples are post-deregulation fallout. I think the last of that was settled with the big BK's and mergers 15-20 years ago, and the rise of the ULCC's.
We're in a new era now. Don't forget the past, but there are differences.

Well I don't trust Elliot. When the letters putting companies on notice only differentiate by the dates and the names at the top, I find that awful telling. To me that says they have a game plan to rake in as much money as they can no matter the cost to the companies or its employees.

There is nothing any pilot can do that is going to move the needle on this whole thing. Not a single thing.
However, I think a lot of pilots, myself included, are pro regime change with the C suite. We have already seen some movement in that direction offered up from the current execs. Elliott wants more, including Bob Jordan. I happen to agree with that. Our current batch of leaders has shamefully gotten us into this current predicament and caused the biggest meltdown in commercial aviation history all while taking bonuses and promotions. Nobody has been fired or even hinted at taking personal responsibility. That, to me, is enough to see them out the door. I can do greed, anti-labor, and ruthlessness, I can't do incompetence and cowardice.

The union isn't supporting them, not sure where you got that info. They met with them to listen to their presentation. I would rather have a union that is engaged than not. There is a whole page on the SWAPA website dedicated to it.

The cure might be worse than the disease, for labor. Not like it was your choice in then first place. But remotely possible the union can work with them for some win/win in some aspects. We had a bit of a regime change at AS, it was insiders not people liek Elliot, but I'm mostly happy how it's working out so far.
