100% correct. I flew with several new hires that were downright pathetic (not 225) in aviating ability. These folks would not have qualified for the regionals in 1999 and it showed.
Remember the announcement that they identified something like 40 pilots that were assigned to fly with a check airman for X amount of additional time? the company shoots itself in the face and continues this rediculous push for inexperienced people while waving away qualified people i want to fly with. All that said, hire for experience FFS. |

It’s all luck and timing in this industry. Too many pilots think they get hired because they’re special

Literally ALL of the very inexperienced ones I flew with had a great attitude and to be honest, as I previously stated, I’d rather fly with someone who’s weak but not a PIA/checked out/burnt out/etc., than an experienced FO who actually meets one or more of those descriptors. They can be insufferable.

Agree on all points—I think somehow I just ended up getting a fair amount of problem children. (You’re not an AMer are you?!) Most were not, but the rate at which I experienced issues was sudden and noticeable. Hopefully it’s been resolved by now.
Before you spew all the hate on 225 look deeper at the program requirements which you obviously don’t understand if you think all of them have no experience. It’s about an 8 year process on average from interview to getting into an initial class at SWA. 2 years of flight school and 4-6 years of experience building as a CFI and then part 135/121 SIC/PIC. Almost everyone currently in the program interviews with SWA before those in the CJO pool. Think of it like seniority we made an agreement with them before we interviewed those in the pool so the company held to the agreement because they were here first. Now I will also add how we are treating those in the pool right now is not right we shouldn’t be reinterviewing unless they have a failure, but at the same point the company has also started removing 225 folks from the program for failures so everyone is being held to the same standard. |

Attitude is an issue for everyone at this place. Some to happy some always ****ed at the world. The 225 program standards require more experience to get to Southwest than our external hiring out of the 100 ish pilots on the line from the program only 4 have to direct path where they came directly to us over going 135/121.

I have no problem with D225 people, and have found them to be quite good, but the program was founded 6 years ago.

8 years in a program that hasn't been around that long. Those 4 shouldn't have been brought on property but we know why....LGA anybody? Sorry pal get your experience elsewhere. 175 paying pax deserve better. I've flown with a few of our low timers. One was fantastic the rest should not be here. I sure as heck wouldn't want the poop to hit the fan with one of them backing me up.
