3 months of paid hotels is definitely not enough. That number needs to go up to the dollar equivalent of a paid move.

Amen!

Make it cost real money and the company won’t displace our newhires and new upgrades so freely.

Please re-read my postings, that is not what I said.

Yep, that’s what I said.

Why would you think 3 months is enough? This has been going on for 18 months. 3 months lets the company get off too cheaply.

I’ve never said or suggested 3 months was enough. Not sure where you get this stuff from.

When I pushed for paid hotels for displaced pilots your counter was that they already receive it for 3 months.

My opinion is that it should be paid hotels period. I don’t think displaced pilots would appreciate having their concerns dismissed just because they get hotels for 3 months. It should be for the duration of the displacement. If the company wants something they should pay for it, not just disrupt a pilot’s life for free after the 3 months are up.

This all goes back to the concept that displacing pilots should be voluntary first (TDY with paid DHs, stipends, etc) then expensive if there are not enough volunteers (paid hotels, stipends, etc). This would reduce the number of displacements and shorten any that still happen.

Totally agree with you on this. They are doing it on their current route because it is basically free for them past the three-month mark, and let's be honest, three months of hotels is nothing for them. If we made it painful for them or cheaper to leave pilots in place, they would find another way. I fear that this entire cycle repeats next year as they start moving people around again for seasonal flying. Hopefully, hiring picks up "enough" to mitigate it.

bottom line is nothing will change. Its a small amount of pilots, non of them are SWAPA so they wont care. Theyll say itll imporve with hiring and we should just be patient, its inly a few yrs other have had it worse, you cna always pick up in a base of your choice etc.
it's a poop thing to say but its true. Swapa does not care about this.

Yep, sad but true.

We need to capture this moment and some good ideas for the next contract.

How about…..

If the company needs to move pilot staffing in excess of the number of newhires and upgrades, it will offer those vacancies to volunteers via DH lines, paid hotels, etc.

If the company needs seasonal changes in vacancies it will offer them to volunteers via stipend, DH lines, paid hotels, etc.

Latest Swapa Report podcast talked about displacements, etc. Sounded like a new base “should” be announced by year end. That plus hiring plus the addition of redeye rsv next year will help unring the displacement bell. They said all the redeye trips are east coast because they can’t staff it with west coast reserves and needed to beef the staffing up to cover it..hence displacements. Also said the RE trips are inefficient and should also be “fixed” when they can put the RE leg at the beginning of the trip vs the end.

We’ll see….

Aren’t RE’s only allowed at the end per contract?
