saw that earlier this week. I was waiting to see if it was just me.
My primary indicator on which trip I bid on in open time is gone.

I saw this 2 day come through open time in my base that was a STC and Pb4R so it paid well with little work.
I watched it and waited to bid premium at the last moment. Due to my senority now if i bid something premium early the jr guys will bid it straight since they know they won't get it. C'est la vie
shockingly no one was bidding it.
I go and check out the cpt.
CkP with maxed out sick time. I see rarely does anyone fly their line with him. Most trips have several FOs and not for training.
anywho... I decided not to bid it.
Goes to reserve, that guy calls out beofre trip starts, goes to online reroute.
The 2 day premium for me would have been 20 tfp.
After all the mess the mess it cost the company close to 50 because of all the people that had to be rerouted to get someone to fly with this guy.
no wx, no delays, just new FOs every day.
Surprise it was a ckp out of BNA who lives in BWI.
I guess the point is the company talks about saving money yet every time this guy flies it cost over triple time to get an FO to fly with him.

Sad to see stories like this, but they are sure are fun to read! We’ve all known a pilot like that at some point.

I wish the Union would stop protecting these guys and let the company fire them. They make everyone's life a living hell, How can one person wield so much havoc. I've been the victim of said captains many times. Screws up my overnight when I get pulled to fly with these tools. They know what they are doing and some even enjoy it. Called pro standards once and all I got was "he is probably having a bad day, problems at home". "I knew him in the unit and he was a good ****". I said, well, he's an ******* in this unit and tell him to leave his problems at home like the rest of us.

Thankfully there are few of these guys, but I agree…for their asses. Ridiculous these types of guys are tolerated. Probably an Academy guy…

Is BNA attainable out of training or soon after? How big and how senior is the base at the moment?

Shrunk it for April. So who knows? AUS has 2 more months of growth before it’s fully staffed and nobody knows where that’s coming from….NH/UG or displacements from other bases. Most Jr FO right now is a 11/23 hire.

No way to tell really - but you'd think that IF hiring continues, maybe 1-2 years max. I do know that if you want to be domiciled at BNA for one of the big 4 airlines it's Southwest or nothing, and looks like there are 6 flights per day BWI/BNA and 13 DCA/BNA.

Sorry bud, but you're a victim of your own choices. Framing yourself as a helpless victim only guarantees it continues. You have the tools, the authority and the responsibility to shut it down... Some 20 years ago, I made a decision: I will not tolerate overbearing, unsafe, or abusive captains... Period. And I haven't since. I've handled it passive-aggressively, aggressively but politely and straight-up brutally honest when needed... Some snap out of it through self-awareness; others straighten up because they realize they're not flying with someone who will put up with their sh!t. Either way, the trip dramatically improves.

Don't tolerate tyrants... I don't want my loved ones in the back of the plane flown by a tyrant and a weak and timid FO. Our crews and pax deserve better.
