Thanks....is there a online copy of the CBA floating around anywhere? My googling skills are apparently not up to par

What if your kids are about the age for orthodontic work? Are you then better off going with the other plans?

Quick question. I start class Jan 13 so I don't have access to swapa website yet. Will the insurance cover my wife even if she has coverage available at her place of employment? I see everyone saying don't contact southwest with questions. Thanks.

You can select from 4 different health plan options to insure just yourself, or you and your wife, or family coverage, or you and your children and exclude your wife.

Old thread alert!

I'm interested in the regular plan also but I have Tricare Reserve Select now. I was watching the most recent SWAPA videos about benefits and it was recommended to keep a SWA plan ( like the free regular plan) and use Tricare as your supplemental. Doing this gave you some extra benefits maybe or helped you out if you had to go out on medical??? Maybe if Tricare dropped you for whatever reason?? I was confused, which happens a lot, so was hoping for someone to clarify. I'd like to get $50 back a month by declining coverage but if there are benefits to having a company plan and Tricare I'd like to know what those are. Thanks!!

I have the regular plan and love it. I came from the civilian side so know nothing about tri care. Is wellness visits covered by tri care? That might be the reason to supplement right there. Under the regular plan wellness visits are not covered. But the no premiums, and 2,500 max out of pocket more than offset the difference vs the other plan SWA offers.
I hit my max family deductible of 300$ in March and now I pay no co pay. Just 20% of any services rendered. You must get your info on the regular plan from SWAPA bc the company will not inform you of the difference in training.

I'm actually curious to know where the regular plan will withstand if the AIP becomes law of the land. I hope it remain unchanged bc it's one of the better plans I have ever had.

Your best bet is to watch the videos and to contact the benefits chair at SWAPA. He is the guru on all things regular plan. There is a slide show they put out last year at benefits enrollment time that laid it all out.
The way I understand it is this:
Regular plan is the primary payer. Tricare is secondary. As soon as you hit the cap for the regular plan, it takes care of everything 100 percent. The cap is $2,500.
Regular plan doesn't cover preventive, so tricare will in effect become the first insurer for everything preventive. There may be some phone calling and paperwork shuffling involved in making this happen as tricare is tricare and they will attempt to say that the regular plan should be paying first.
In the end, it is an EXCEPTIONAL value. The cost for this world class health insurance? Zero.
Due to my family size and makeup right now, I don't do this, but I plan on switching to it as soon as a few of my chicks fly the nest. Right now, I do tricare only with benefits plus vision and dental.

I was on TRS and dropped it for the regular plan. Unless you plan on spending more than your TRS premiums ~$2400 on preventive care it's a no brainer to get rid of it.

GET LIFE INSURANCE OTHER THAN SWA. SWA life ins will only cover you while you're employed. Get sick? You better hope you die before your sick leave runs out and you're off the payroll. You're only option then is life ins at cobra rates - prohibitively expensive, especially if you're sick.

And the bone-us? SWA life will not cover you while non-reving. Yup. You die in a SWA accident (not on duty) and your loved ones are S.O.L. That also goes for any GA flying.

Supplement with the company life ins if you want, be get a policy not tied to your employment.

Yes.
Lock in a good rate on life ins now while you are young and healthy. Supposedly SWAPA is working on some options for life coverage, but in the meantime, I use an outside company and it is much much better than the SWA coverage that ends when your sick leave does.
