If you let them know you can't go it's supposed to open up a slot for someone to take supposedly, but only if you tell them. A no show without telling them is a waste of a slot.

Would you recommend a interview prep for this event? I am at 5900 hours tt and about 2650 turbine PIC all corporate. I do not have a degree. I am trying to not let my hopes get too high, but I am really excited about this opportunity. I would love to work for Southwest .

It may not say a degree is required, but if 90% of your competition has one it's still a discriminator. I don't agree with it, I just got mine back in December and there wasn't a magic switch that made me a better pilot, but it's another block to check to get you past the computer.

Yeah. I went to the one in September and everyone was in a suit.

At WIA, Bill Kennedy from United (I know, this is a Southwest forum, but still applicable to some extent) said that they do not "require" a degree either, but 98.3% of the pilots hired this past year had a degree.

Exactly. I wasn't willing to roll the dice and not get. I run into people quite often that are banking on the idea "it's not required and the shortage will be so bad I won't need one, so I'm not going to waste my time". Less competition I guess.
