Where is everyone getting this $80/tfp first year rate from??? I saw none of that....

I haven't seen 80tfp for first year anywhere. Not sure what the 15% snap up will include, but will certainly wait till the details come out.

How does TFP work out to the normal hourly rate? 200 an hour means 200 an hour to me. Can someone explain how you guys get paid?

Call your reps. The $80 first year pay is in there, just wasn't in the bullet points they put out. It will be in the expanded summary that comes out tomorrow or the next day.

TFP = trip for pay. It's a weird little multiplier that SW uses instead of "per hour". You can convert to hourly by multiplying by 1.149

Trip For Pay. We are paid by distance and not by time. Hence, the reason southwest pilots are notorious for flying fast and taxiing fast. I believe 1 tfp used to equal the distance between Dallas and Houston or something along those lines. Someone more senior to me could probably do a better job of explaining where 1 tfp came from.

Traditionally 1250 trips per year is the minimum a southwest pilot will earn. Some earn a lot more. Some earn a little less. The Captain I just went through recurrent with credited 355 tfp's last month. At the current pay rate that was a gross of $67k in one month. That's obviously on the very high end of the spectrum. It's very easy to make 100-110 trips per month. 110-130 is very doable with a couple extra days of flying, and many with seniority can make close to 200 during the summer months with relative ease by using vacation and bidding premium trips.

Even as a first year guy I was able to credit 137 trips in June with only 8 nights on the road. I do pickup a lot of 1 day turns though so that I can be home for dinner. In some respect this feels like a 9-5 job at times but I work for hard to drop as much flying as I can and pick up or trade for 1-2 day trips.
