I don’t live in Dallas. Thanks for the effort though. Not going to drop several hundred dollars just to attend a meet and greet that may or may not help get an interview. I’ll wait for one I can drive to.

I think you're better off applying elsewhere, since it seems like you don't want to be here. Many of us, not just here at Spirit but other companies spent much more for air fare, hotel cost, and give up time off to go to different conferences to talk to a recruiter. Did you forget how much you spent on your flight training? A couple hundred dollars is nothing if it increase your chances of an interview over those who said "I'll just wait for a meet and greet, that I can drive to"

Don't waste your breath on flysooner9. He's all talk, in the past, he has bashed Spirit left and right, probably wouldn't make it past the interview, so he should just save his cash and recruiters' time. At best, the guy belongs at Mesa or Go Jet.

The way I look at it is any month I work less at my career carrier, is a month lost at 12th year captain pay. That might be enough money to fund a trip to a meet and greet.....

PS: obviously NK is not a career destination for all of us.

That’s a bit reaching. My class is mostly former regional captains and Netjets pilots. All have good qualifications. To marginalize them is short sighted.

The people and friends I know the best usually have only 19-20 yr airline careers before retirement. Over that 19 yrs, if they start TODAY they're looking at total gross income in the $4-$6 million range. Every day their application sits in the middle of a tall stack, they're losing both money and seniority (QOL). For me and my friends, spending a few hundred bucks to get that application out of the middle of the stack and actually looked at, even just one time, is absolutely worth the time, effort, and money. My own application sat in the stack and I am convinced that the job fair I attended was the primary reason I got hired.

If it's not worth it to you for any particular airline, then either your calculations trading your time and current vs. future value of money are completely different than mine, or maybe you just don't really want to work for that particular airline.

It doesn't really matter what your reason is but if you're not hustling for the job then my bet is that you either don't really want that job, or you don't really understand the long-term value of getting in sooner rather than later in the airline industry. That's your choice but don't be surprised if people point this out to you using words that are not flattering to you.

Sorry if my comments came off the wrong way. I have other reasons for not being able to make an effort to get to Denver for the meet and greet as well such as my wife being due with our first child in two weeks. Believe me i know the importance of getting hired at a major ASAP. That is the whole reason i am leaving a cushy corporate job now.

I would wager your class was hired at a time when Spirit was the only one hiring at least in numbers and they have enough invested seniority wise to rationalize staying, or they were hired in the last year or two and most of them are either gone or trying to get out. Most of who I’ve flown with that were hired in the last year fall in to three categories
1. Well qualified with one foot out the door
2. No degree or other disqualifying mark for a legacy
3. South American captain. Great pilot but they were making less as captains than our 2 year FOs under the current contract. They can’t believe the money they can make at Spirit. Again no degree so the legacies won’t look at them.

Not a reflection on them as pilots but all of these folks are content being low tier and Spirit likes it that way and they know this TA will attract similar moving forward.

We are in class now. We will find out tomorrow if our decision was a good one or not.

I'm a former Bridgeway One arrival refugee as well. Welcome to the chaos. There's a lot of QS guys here and some of us are happy. I don't know of any who have left but I know several who interviewed, were offered, but declined. I don't know how tomorrows tally will fare but we'll find out soon enough.

Study hard brother. Our training program (not the instructors) sucks. It'll be drastically different in 18 months or so with JW heading things up and AQP on the way. He's a great guy and we should see huge improvements but that doesn't help you now. Stay in the books and we'll see you on the line.
