I imagine a few senior guys/gals have a nice Christmas vacation they are not willing to give up. They will bid over in the new year

That’s a catch 22. If they move over now, they can bid for Christmas and all the good vacations next year. If they wait till January to move, they’ll get Christmas this year but they’ll have to drop all their bid vacation and pick up the scraps next year.

Doesn't matter when you change bases, you lose your vacation. Changing in Dec or July doesn't matter

As long as the days stay green you can always just VFX drop and move your vacation to your new base. Key being the green days. Otherwise you can force a buy back of your vacation days. You do have options.
