However, this thread is about a possible plane order. And if a mixed fleet is the result, the impact on one’s seniority would be diluted vs. remaining a single fleet. Especially if part of that order is a replacement for some of our aging aircraft and not in addition to.

Given that they always spoke about a fleet of 300 airplanes, I don't see the possibility of the 220 being a replacement. Also, if they went with the 220 in such a small quantity, one would think they would be getting a hell of deal do to the start up costs of adding another fleet.

Any guesses where we think such a small order(50) would primarily operate for us?

Obviously all a big question mark for now, but nonetheless could be exciting.

That’s not a small order/fleet considering this entire airline was less than 50 planes for a very long time. No matter how large a second fleet would eventually become, it would start with an initial order.

As to where it would fly? Kind of a no brainer, we are in the leisure travel world so I would expect a lot of LAS, MSY, MCO, LAX, ACY etc connected to smaller/mid size markets that wouldn’t be as profitable. Could also back up existing routes to add a bit more cheaper capacity, and finally some new point to point routes.

Where they are based would probably be more tactical for cheap/available gates/hangar space that geography, how often do you see your base when you set out on a 3-4 day pairing anyway?

I see your point with diluting the seniority list and I I agree with you, especially with a smaller airline like ours. The flip side though is having a 2nd fleet gives you another option to improve your relative seniority, could be huge for someone that’s looking at reserve vs lineholder.

I guess....but it goes both ways. If you have two fleets you have two sets of reserve pilots. Without running any math, I would suspect that results in having more people total on reserve than with one fleet. Having two fleets is a mixed bag that benefits some and hurts others.

Why would you expect an order for 50? Where did that number come from? I would think a bigger volume number (maybe 100) would be more likely if they want a bigger discount. JB ordered 60 A220s but added options for more down the road.

You might be right about more total reserves, I hadn’t thought of that.

It's a number floating around the mill.

Got it. Well, 50 would be better than zip. Perhaps add a bunch of options. Time will tell...
