[QUOTE=flyingpuma1;2860313]Sure now they are hiring but that’s only because we are so short they thought they could get away with it.

“So this summer, Spirit did what most cost-conscious airlines try once they’re tired of spending a fortune to fix operational woes. Spirit reduced some of the costly changes, flying aircraft more hours each day, and cutting the number of pilots held in reserve for unexpected flying”

Not sure if you heard so I'll fill in around the edges and put some color to it. They tried to maximize block hours with less crews and spares and found themselves over the skis. Oh, and the weather patterns were horrible and wreaked a lot of the havoc.

Also, plane order expected in late August to early September in addition to 13 additional airframes in the current order.

Or it's because we have 10 more aircraft deliveries this year and 21 next year.

Ya know, this kept getting brought up during the investor call and I wish people would quit citing it. The weather has not been any worse than previous years. It's called summer time thunderstorms, and it happens every year in Florida.

They just didn't hire enough pilots, plain and simple. You can blame it on the weather, tooth fairy, Donald Trump, etc...but the when you take aircraft deliveries but slow down the hiring, this will happen EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.

Airlines just got drunk on the whipsaw of cheap labor for so long that maybe they have started to figure out operating in house is a better product that endless outsourcing. The a220 has nothing to do with scope other than it has to be a mainline aircraft.
If mainline airlines could operate rj's cheaper than regionals trust me they would. They are a business not a charity.

Except in 2017 when they blamed us and got away with it....

I don’t believe I said cheaper, I did say still profitably.

And at some point cheaper becomes more costly.

I agree with all of this which is why I don’t know why he mentioned scope at all. It was never a factor in the 100 seat market. The reason those markets went unserved is because there wasn’t a good aircraft for the mission. The difference between mainline and regional pilot wages was never a factor.
