We did have input. We have a chair of the uniform committee who had to veto some seriously poor fashion proposals from the woman representing the company on branding that would have had us wearing yellow accents on our uniforms like the flight attendants from the same sub standard vendor.
If I remember correctly from a conversation I had with someone briefed on the uniform discussions with management is that the compromise to get the light shell jacket is that we’ll be wearing wings on our shirts (requested by Ted) and possibly yellow stripes on our epaulets to go along with black pants from a high quality vendor. |

Honest question. Do WN pilots have another option other than the Karbon jacket? I have only seen WN pilots wear those Karbon jackets this winter and nothing else. At all.
I would hate for the company to force us to that being the only approved jacket. I keep a warm but packable pullover in my bag for overnights |

Well, sounds like it is time for you to move to base if that's LITERALLY all you can get with zero trip trade or drop options.

We have the Karbon jacket, leather and blazer at WN. I have all three and prefer the leather for colder weather and the blazer when it’s mild. I don’t like the Karbon at all. It fits me kind of weird, and I don’t feel as professional wearing it. Most here wear the leather.

So get it with the liner, problem solved. Either way, you can’t deny that it’ll be much more efficient than the leather for its size and weight.

I absolutely agree. Once the company reimburses for this vs the blazer, I will definitely be getting it. But not out of my own pocket.

Truth in packaging
I wore an approved raincoat (over a sweater in cold weather). The fact that it was cheap and unfashionable, like the owner, made it perfect for layovers. :p

We get paid like Virgin America pilots, so why am I required to wear a tie to work? I'd be happy to be paid like SWA pilots, and even they wear this style jacket. (Uglier, actually.) What we get paid has *ZERO* to do with what we wear and everything to do with allowing ourselves to be emotionally manipulated by a management team that was genius on their side of the negotiating table. |

That’s not true. I see at least 60/40 Karbon vs Leather here at WN. Oh, and BTW we had this exact same b**** fest on the WN forums about it looking unprofessional and nobody was going to order it much less wear it. I see more and more show up every trip and it seems by far the go to option for most of our pilots. I can pack it in my suitcase and don’t have to drape it over my rollerboard while walking through the Airport if it isn’t needed at the time. Not something that’s possible with the Leather and not practical for the Blazer.

Agree on the size, I’m 6’2 and a medium fits well. Also, I’m probably returning the liner. I don’t think it was worth the money as the jacket is warm enough without it.
|
I would probably just wait till after the merger.
Lol fellow pilots amaze me. Lets wear dress pants, tie, and uh let’s see...a North Face jacket (look-a-like) I would love to see a doctor ditch the white coat for a hoodie. I mean it would be more comfortable in that cold hospital. |

Jackets: Jackets are optional during warm weather. At the moment, the only approved optional uniform jacket is the Perrone Leather Jacket. Base Chief Pilots are not the “uniform police;” however, they have been instructed to make routine inquiries for wildly outrageous uniform decisions. We are currently in the process of sourcing a new uniform. We still have a good deal of time ahead of us before this occurs. You should continue to order from the current HPI uniform selection. Many have asked about the Karbon jacket option. Although this is not an official uniform piece, you may elect to wear it, provided the approved epaulets and wings are worn with it. The Velcro name tag should not be worn. We are working on making this an official uniform selection; but do not expect this to happen in the immediate future. I’d like to thank the uniform committee Ryan Pachofsky and Jessica Meyer for their passion for appearance and professionalism. Thanks for serving our pilot group. |

Symbian, your in charge of this one...We need to get this in Black with yellow stripes on the sleeve, show the CP and get this approved now. Imagine how great this will be for red eyes. |

Sincerely, 20% of the pilot group And the answer should “where are your epaulets and wings? They are required on the Karbon jacket and your NorthFace doesn’t have them. Do you wear your required shirt without epaulets and a tie when at work? Now stop being too cool and get an approved uniform” |

It’s clear pilots can’t police themselves so sadly it’s time for the company to treat us like children |
Anyone notice that the Karbon outer only is $209 but at karbon.com/southwest it’s only $174.
What gives? Same jacket? |

Frankly everyone who bought the Karbon jacket is getting played. We're supposed to get paid uniforms. Yet you guys gave away that piece of the contract the second you got the opportunity. It's obvious the reason management has made this jacket "approved but not approved" is that they want us to wear it but they don't want to pay for it.

You want to know what a Ultra-low cost pilot that makes ultra-low wages really looks like? Just wait till you see me walk down the terminal. |
