not bad without the liner

It's approved, your can order the Spirit Airlines name tag. We have them in base ops right now for trying on for fit and size. You have to use your employee number and select Spirit version. I've seen guys wearing them on line last couple of weeks. Don't buy the dumb liner. It's a coat inside a coat. WTF???

Halon1211 04-07-2019 05:48 PM

...and they want $279 for that thing?!?!

Wow you must be a sucker if you buy that jacket.

That’s worse than people who pay $150 for an iPhone earbud.

If we didn't purchase a pig skin can we submit for the 3 year reimbursement?

$2o9 is ridiculous for that jacket.

(Corrected 3)

3 year reimbursement

Why is everyone here so obsessed with damn north face jackets?

Cuz they get to look like a cool corporate pilot...

I’m just trying to figure out how someone even thinks that’s fashionable. Come on your wearing slacks and a tie and you put a North Face jacket on as your outer layer???

You think we look fashionable in our leather coats? The north face is warmer than the dinner coat and probably the leather coat too. Definitely more fashionable than the leather coat and easier to pack. I think it’s a great option.

Qotsaautopilot 04-08-2019 04:18 AM

I don’t care what’s fashionable. I think we should wear any approved uniform and wear it well. When we go our own way is the problem. Still haven’t seen communication for this jacket. Also southwest is required to wear epaulets with it. Are we? I actually hope so. While it may look silly it marks you as a pilot and makes it look like a uniform piece not a random jacket

Because as a commuter it’s nice not having to lug around a separate jacket that you may only need for one cold overnight. I have the leather and I hate it. It doesn’t fit right and looks ridiculous unless you’re planning on flying something with an open cockpit. The blazer is fine but you can’t exactly take the epaulets off and go grab dinner with it on an overnight and it’s basically worthless if it’s actually cold outside. With either the leather or the blazer you have to stuff another jacket into your bag. It’s not about how it looks it’s about convenience and lightening up your bag.

for people who fly to more than... florida.

Wear this jacket in a -30 walkaround in MSP and tell me you don't want the liner...

Here's the scoop: We're only getting bigger. It's only a matter of time before we start expanding outside OH/FL

Lol ok.........

FNGFO 04-08-2019 07:15 AM

We had the North Face styled jackets at my last job, but no liner was offered. Some guys modified their jackets with a zip in liner, but I never found that I needed it. They’re plenty warm enough for 99% of all operations.

And just bring another jacket for civvy work. Good grief. You’re only out for 4 days max which means you’ve only got 3 uniform shirts (if that), maybe an extra pair of pants and your civvies. There’s plenty of room in the bag.

Ya unless you commute and have a six day stretch that’s not commutable on both ends which happens literally all the time

Ya, and we packed for 6-9 day jaunts at my last gig and still managed to get it in the bag. Pack better or pick a wash day on a longer overnight. It’s not hard. I’m on a six day stretch myself, packed for the entire trip so I didn’t have to repack on my brief stop at home, and I still have the uniforms, work out attire, pants, shorts, long and short sleeve shirts, one pair of long johns (soon to be retired until next winter) and a separate jacket in the bag.

TrojanCMH 04-08-2019 08:12 AM

Only at Spirit does another uniform jacket option get people fired up. It’s a nice option for people who don’t like the leather coat and don’t want to bring an extra jacket in the bag. If you don’t like it or think it’s too expensive then don’t wear it. Personally I think the blazer looks the best but the Karbon looks way better than the tired looking leather. But either way, you do you. It’s nice to have options...

Well, sounds like it is time for you to move to base if that's LITERALLY all you can get with zero trip trade or drop options.

Honest question. Do WN pilots have another option other than the Karbon jacket? I have only seen WN pilots wear those Karbon jackets this winter and nothing else. At all.

I would hate for the company to force us to that being the only approved jacket.

GrillMaster 04-08-2019 08:59 AM

Anyone know how true to size these fit? Example, I got a northface in L, fits great. Karbon run the same or a bit smaller/larger?

I have a puffer down jacket in my bag that squished down to the size of two fists. It’s great for not having to wear the leather on overnights and good for 60 to sub zero temps.

Qotsaautopilot 04-08-2019 09:33 AM

Still haven’t seen a communication on this jacket or if epaulets are to be worn with it.

I doubt it's only at Spirit. Pilots are a fickle bunch. Everything else you said I agree with. It's nice to have options. It would be equally nice if this pilot group would not judge others for their choices. I mean, who gives a hoot who wears long sleeve shirts, blazers, leather coats, or North Face jackets? As long as it is approved uniform attire, rock on! If someone is not wearing approved attire I get it. I personally do not like acting as the uniform police, so whatever. But I totally understand if someone else wants to make that call. Personally I think the Karbon jacket doesn't really work, for me. If it is approved and you want to wear it, have at it. I think you look smashing in it. The last time I personally judged anyone for their outfit was sometime in the 80's when in high school, and then it was because of their choice of spandex!

I commute on them and I see blazers and leather jackets.

That’s great until your 4 day in February has one overnight in Minneapolis then the rest in Florida. Now I’m stuck dragging the giant heavy leather jacket around on the top of my bag for 3 days in Florida, not to mention shoving it into overhead bins on both my commutes. But to each their own, if you like the leather jacket and it works for you then that’s great. Keep at it.

Why do we allow HQ guys to dictate what’s on our menu of choices? I mean really, have you seen what those people consider “professional”?
ALPA should have had input (maybe they did but once again didn’t inform anyone) into the choices.
Seriously. Would it be so hard to put together 5-10 outfits that the company approved and let the pilots choose the final ones.

Only at Spirit? I came across a thread once about American guys picking apart an AA branded Breitling watch. I don't really think this jacket is nearly as bad a topic since it is a visible uniform item and honestly looks pretty nice. The price is indeed a bit on the steep side. Is it actually available without the liner?

Lol I should remove Spirit then. “Only Pilots will get fired up about a new uniform jacket option...”

We did have input. We have a chair of the uniform committee who had to veto some seriously poor fashion proposals from the woman representing the company on branding that would have had us wearing yellow accents on our uniforms like the flight attendants from the same sub standard vendor.

If I remember correctly from a conversation I had with someone briefed on the uniform discussions with management is that the compromise to get the light shell jacket is that we’ll be wearing wings on our shirts (requested by Ted) and possibly yellow stripes on our epaulets to go along with black pants from a high quality vendor.

LloydBraun 04-08-2019 02:58 PM

Christ guys. Now we’re *****ing about a new jacket Option.

Skypilotsv1984 04-08-2019 03:10 PM

I highly doubt Ted cares about how we look or what our uniforms are. He cares about spreadsheets, stock price and quarterly performance.
