In northern Missouri, my grandmother rode her horse and buggy to teach school (one room schoolhouse) 5 miles from town. It was minus 23 one morning. In 1912 wind chill had not been invented. But she said the wind was blowing kind of bad.

Anyone have the link to buy the Karbon? I searched and I found it but it says enter your southwest employee number. Their cost is $174?

Southwest has to pay around $25 in shipping, so it comes out to about the same price in the end.

Never operate a manure spreader when it’s that cold with a strong tailwind. The chunks will freeze solid before hitting you in the back. :(

I'm 5'10" 155lbs and 32" waist. I order my shirts from a cut above and get the fitted shirts so they aren't baggy. I ordered a size small Karbon after I got the email. Think this size will be ok?

I personally care about my appearance and hate wearing a uniform that looks baggy. And I'm a smaller build guy. I usually wear the blazer but I hate the fit and don't want to have it tailored since they say our uniform is changing. I think this is a great option and finally something I can wear on an overnight without being embarrassed.

And just an fyi... The FO velcro epaulettes on the HPI site are sold out. Any other options for these?

No liner just the jacket. Damn thing is very warm so I can’t foresee a need for the liner except for extreme situations.

Thanks, PM inbound.

Yeah, should be good on the size. You can ask your domicile admin for epaulettes, no guarantees but sometimes they have them.

Thanks! I'll give it a shot but I'd be surprised if they have some in ACY.

Crew outfitters in DFW has Velcro Spirit Epaulets. If they only have normal in stock they will sew in Velcro for you. Great people there!

5.F.1 "The company shall furnish required Company uniform insignias (for example, wings, epaulets, and/or emblems)."

Don't spend your own money.

And you can’t wear the jacket without them. So order from HPI just like other uniform pieces and you should have them at home pretty quick. Until then wear the blazer.

I have a FO Blazer size 44S available for sale $50 located in DTW.

So to sum up the last 200 posts...

https://karbon2.myshopify.com/collec...12297263218769 or here with no liner https://karbon2.myshopify.com/collec...aviator-jacket This is the jacket and this is the only place/best price to get it, and it’s the only approved jacket. It has a liner that’s removable and not really needed unless it’s super cold. And it’s only approved if you have epaulets that Velcro onto it? And those Velcro epaulets can be provided by the base admin? And they run small?

They run big, so buy a size smaller than you normally would.

319wisperer 11-06-2019 03:40 AM

185 lbs, 5’8”, Scorpio. Medium fits perfect with the liner. There is a tiny bit of extra room when wearing the shell without the liner but small shell would have definitely been too small. I think there is mid-information out there that they run big. They don’t run big, it’s a shell, it’s meant to be worn over other outerwear. If you’re just wearing over your shirt then yes, there may be a bit of extra room if you go with your usual size. I got the liner for that one or 2 MSP midwinter overnights I tend to always get.

Definitely a nice quality jacket.

Jacket came very fast. Ordered the day the email about the Karbon came out and it wa a delivered yesterday. What’s that, less than two weeks?

FML666 11-08-2019 08:21 PM

True to size for me

I'm 5'6" and weigh about 155lbs and the small Karbon fits the same as my current Columbia (S) uniform jacket does. I blindly ordered the small because I rarely go to Detoilet and thankfully it worked out.

On that note, would it really have been that much of a bother to send the samples around to each base instead of leaving us to guess on sizing? Just a couple weeks in each of our to-die-for domiciles would have given most everyone the opportunity to decide if they want the jacket and what size fits best but I guess that was too much to hope for.

Contact your base manager or chief pilot and they will drop some in your v-file.
