Spirit May 2019 hiring
So I am not sure if things have changed since some of the other threads that have been posted prior, but here is what I have just experienced this past week.
I applied to Spirit on May 1st and did the online assessment they emailed me. On May 5th i had gotten an email from SF stating she saw my application and wanted to setup a phone interview. I then had my phone interview on May 8th and was invited down for an interview later this month. I did have a friend who is a Spirit FO submit an online recommendation for me. This just seemed really quick to me compared to what I have been reading in other threads. SF also told me that hiring is going to pickup BIG time by the fall and that I would most likely have at least 300 pilots under me if hired. Sounds like there are some things in the works for future at Spirit. I think every pilot I talk to there loves it and say QOL has been great and everyone (minus the select few) have been great to fly with. I had about 4 years flying part 121 at a regional and have been flying the past 8 years Part 91 on a Lear. Anyway, just wanted to clarify maybe some rumors about hiring and guys getting called vs. not getting called. |
Congrats! Wish I had it that easy. Applied End of January, took assessment shortly after. Application has been under review since. Have 3 Rec's. Got a MTC email last week, and a response saying details to follow shortly. I am prepping hard for the MTC. Not sure what else I can do. 5k TTL 2k CRJ PIC.

Not trying to brag by any means at all. Just wondering why i have had a different outcome vs others. But like i said, good news is, it sounds like another big wave is coming.
Good luck with your process. It’s a good tome to be in aviation. |

I've been applying a while too. Took the gallup test twice, 2 job fairs, 1 internal. Finally have the phone interview this week.
|
It is odd how hiring in this industry works. I submitted my app with Spirit less than a week ago and just recently got the email for phone interview. No internals, no MTC, no job fairs. 8300 TT, 2300 TPIC. Keep trying guys and best of luck!

Super laid back. Mostly just a conversation about some of your history. They do ask “why spirit” so have your answer ready for that.

Agreed. Just did it. Very friendly. Interview scheduled.

I actually think it was Sandra. Regional FO, 4000TT 2500SIC, 4 year degree, saw them at NGPA.

Assume you're probably close to upgrade... Why the move now?
Probably because TPIC time isn’t worth what it was 5 or 10 years ago and he or she will make more than a senior regional captain in their second year here. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Basically yes. With better QOL and driving to work in both cases. Also yes, at Xjet upgrade time is dropping and I'd probably hold it on the next bid. But either way, I think a place like Spirit is where I'd be really happy. I don't think I fit in with the legacy pilot culture.

I'm hearing about a year to hold a line in ACY. Any better in DTW?

There’s been so little movement for almost the last year that unless they actually do hire more you’re likely to be on reserve in any base for a year or so. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
Any guesses on where they’ll put most of the 300 coming in this year? Wonder what base will benefit the most from the new wave of new hires.

NO MORE BASES!!
I do think MCO will be the biggest domicile once the new terminal is done. |

I doubt it. I'm sure it will grow but FLL is our bread and butter, plus HQ and the training department is all there.

Without a doubt it's MCO, bank on new hires being sent to MCO. FLL will slow down with all the upcoming runway closures.

Everywhere is stagnant except MCO and FLL. That’s where the growth will be...

What growth could FLL really see? Yes I’m sure it’s down a little for the runway closure but once that comes back we will only have two more gates than we do now when G is finished, and we may not even be able to park in F anymore once G is done so it’s either a slight increase or a net zero flying. FLL is maxed out. If the airline is going to get bigger they are going to base the crews somewhere besides FLL.
MCO is the most traveled to city in America and when the new terminal is done that place is going to explode. I would bet MCO becomes as big or bigger than FLL for spirit long term. |

This isn’t a legacy. The location of HQ and training centers don’t matter one bit in regards to base staffing. We also train in DFW and LAS. FLL may very well remain our largest domicile, but it’s not because it’s “home”.

It pains me to say you might be right, although I would rather not see that come to fruition. MCO might be a good base, but living in Orlando gets old fast. That place is landlocked, doesn't really have its own culture aside from Disney and theme park BS, and has the worst traffic in the state of Florida.
You should head east. The cocoa beach, Merritt island, Melbourne areas have beaches/character and it’s still somewhat affordable. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

How long for new hires to hold FLL?

That’s basically all of Florida. It’s all trash in my opinion but if you want less of a cookie cutter suburban wasteland that is Orlando then I stand by my statement. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |
