Can anyone venture an educated guess on how long it takes to hold a line in LAS and ORD for a new hire?

Any prediction someone gives on here probably won’t be accurate since the company hired about 30 people total for the 12 months preceding July. Now there’s 40-60 a month.

Not long considering how much we're hiring. If you pick a class date at the beginning of the month you'll increase your odds as well. Even if you're in the last class of the month I can't imagine it'll be more than a month to get where you want. It took me one month on the line to get LAS and we were hiring less than now.

Great, thanks! I hope you are right. I'm sure the timing is going to be different now, but how long did it take you to get off reserve in LAS?

old contract you could not drop R days and pick up(at 100% pay) either. you can put yourself on the X or Y lists and hope for an OT call which pays 200%

Currently the most junior lineholder in LAS is a 4/2018 hire. With all of the new hiring I imagine this will come down a bit.

Move into base and life is good. Commute and it can suck the big one. If you live in base you can make serious $$$. The system can still be worked. We had an FO do 220 credit in one month (June). I can do 100 credit easy. If you know the work rules (Section 25) money is just hanging there for the taking. IE Move up, SIT, FDE, 200% reschedule and the best one the 0100 to 0400 5 hr bang! Or you can just get paid 72hrs and chill. Ask your buddies and at Airlines if they get the extras we have in our contract?

This post was so ridiculous, it has to be sarcasm.

You act like “reschedule into a red eye”, FDP extension, Sit pay, move up, etc are things the pilot can implement to make money. Well it isn’t, those are pay triggers when the system royalty screws the pilot. It’s not “hanging there for the taking”. This is not “working the system”. Are you serious? Nobody says “man, I’m going to make some extra money this month...I’m going to get rescheduled into 2 red eyes, do a 14 hour day requiring a FDP extension, and have the company make me sit at the airport after a turn to make money at 50% after 2 hours. Nobody says that.

As far as X and Y list, those are the 2 money making opportunities and if the company is going to staff like they say they are, reserve numbers are doubling and that will mean less calls for X and Y. Spirit will always run a little lean so there will be opportunities, but not at the unprecedented levels this summer. If they do, they get fired.

Just curious how reserve quality of life has changed since the PBS went into effect? Can a reserve holder drop some days and pick up open trips during those days?

It depends. If you live in base QOL is mediocre on reserve. If you have a spouse or kids or something else that needs you to have flexibility then it sucks. No dropping or changing schedule once you get it. Also, I haven’t seen it mentioned-the PBS vendor we use doesn’t allow you to prioritize reserve periods, only days off. Which, depending on your circumstances can really suck. I don’t want to start reserve at 3:00am or 19:00 but you can’t choose that. It gives what it gives.
If you don’t care what days you’re available or what time you start then it’s not as bad. This summer guys worked about 80% of their days available I think. And it’s pretty easy to credit 80-90+ each month when it’s busy.
I think at most airlines reserve isn’t ideal. This contract is worse for reserves than before because you can’t change anything and you can’t bid what time you start. But with the rescheduling language ALPA agreed to line holders are pretty much on reserve too.
