You don’t have an opportunity yet. Apply, interview, get the cjo, then you have a real tangible thing that you can actually consider. I would also apply to F9 so that then you have two very real, tangible opportunities to compare and make a decision. Good luck!

Nobody said a degree makes you a better pilot, it makes you more marketable and is a requirement currently for legacy carriers. The only one on here comparing flying ability and a degree is you.

I have a degree and work for a place that doesn’t require one. Would I have been hired without one? Who knows, don’t care. My ROI has been more than beneficial enough even IF the degree helped/did not help me get on.

 

You stated that you were bitter cause you got a degree and ended up not needing one. I guess I don’t understand that thinking.....are you bitter cause someone didn’t have a degree and got hired? So what! It’s like I tell my kids....”life’s not fair, get over it”. I agree with you that it is definitely a smart move to get one if you wanna fly for a career, but it’s definitely not required. I’m pretty sure delta and fed ex where the only ones that actually require a degree.....I could be wrong about that, but I’m too lazy to look it up. And for the record, I have a degree.

Think if it this way, if you interview here or anywhere, and got turned down. You’re going wonder if the lack of degree has something to do with it. If you had one, you can rule that reason out, and focus on other area to prep for your interview.

I think if you don’t have a degree, and get an interview, they are clearly willing to hire you if you don’t have a degree...it’s known. Just as if you have a degree and have a poor interview, they won’t give you a job just because you have a degree.

Let’s face it; a degree is what the computer scores a value, and a certain value gets a call. As applications decrease, the scoring model is adjusted accordingly. Right now the “degree” is the easiest discriminator out there to thin out a stack of thousands.

If the OP wants to spend his SkyWest overnights in Butte doing anything else but distant learning, don’t get a degree. If you want to do homework on your 10 hour overnights in Jackson Hole, get your degree.

But in the end, he hasn’t even filled an application out and already pondering if it’s better than 2nd year CA pay at SkyWest. That kind of thinking worries me more than a degree, or lack thereof.

 

Also applying and thinking you will be getting a guaranteed call a week later doesn’t happen anymore. May take some face to face time at Meet the Chiefs.
