New Hire Bases
#23
[QUOTE=Super EZ E;2960633]I never said we shouldn't fly there, I wonder why we have a base there. There is probably just as many people commuting from DEN to LAS as we have living in ACY, and the same amount of daily departures. Open the DEN base!

I understand this. These bases are also much larger, therefore, making far more sense. I’ve been based in bigger huh bases, at other airlines, that never overnighted outside crews.
Again, they seem to care about saving money here. Eliminating outside crew overnights, at a ridiculously/insanely small domicile, that could easily be covered by all ACY based guys, would be a start.
The moral of the story (for everyone that asks) is ACY can close and be served, by outside crews overnighting, with ZERO issues. Who knows if/what BWI would do to ACY. For whatever reason powers at be seem to love it so I would not be shocked at all if it never closes.

Our network schedule changes each month because we are a growing airline. This changes the overall flying in the system which is why flying moves in and out of bases. Say we add one flight from ACY to XYZ and one from LAS to XYZ this month. They can’t just put those flights in the domicile they originate at. They run the pairing optimizer and it reshuffles the entire deck for the lowest cost. The lowest network cost could very well be the ACY crew doing the LAS flight and the LAS crew doing the ACY flight.

This is super effed up, but you can be home more in FLL by swapping for flying in other domiciles that come and steal our flying. I'm not talking about the pairings that simply pass thru for an overnight before heading back someplace else, but Spirit literally has crews from other domiciles that come into our base and camp out for multiple days doing turns and staying in expensive South Florida hotels for three straight overnights. The only thing they are "optimizing" is the kick below the belt.
