It’s simple, I look at the last 10 years of Spirit and the ups and downs and how much we have progressed as an airline. If the next 10 years continue to change like the last 10 years we are in great shape. Then compare the last 10 years of say American Airlines, or United. It’s kind of like investing, the long game is where people make the money. YMMV, you have to make a decision that is right for you. But a lot of the chatter on this forum is emotional immaturity. If you are bailing from Spirit because of a few meltdowns and a four hour scheduling hold then you are going to have a rough up-and-down career. If however you are leaving because you’ve always wanted to work for a legacy or you live in base or you are young, it’s a great decision. No one in Flight school looks up in the sky and says one day I hope I work for Spirit Airlines. I get it, I didn’t either. But I’m happy to be here and I’ve gone through 9/11 and understood the grass is pretty much always brown. Good luck to everyone bailing, and to those staying, minibrief.

after a year of eagerly applying and updating I finally got an MTC coming up. I’m looking forward to it, but I can’t help but feel some cold feet at the same time. My “good seniority” here doesn’t really mean much, but at least I’m based at home. Second year pay is good at spirit (compared to a regional) but I could upgrade now and get an immediate big raise, then probably get in range of second year spirit pay based on the 90+ hours a month they keep giving us. I’d have to commute either way, but my young captain friends are all bailing for majors like your pilots are too.
anyway I like spirit and for a long time considered it a destination. But some days, even filtering the doom and gloom, it’s a bit scary.

one glaring thing wrong with this post though is the last 10 years saw nowhere near the amount of retirements at legacy’s as we will see in the next 10 years. Really changes the outlook for seniority progression from the past 10 years to the next 10 years at the legacies.
True statement but my post had nothing to do with the legacy progression. It was to highlight the growth and maturity that Spirit Airlines is a company has made over the last 10 years.

Not in flight school, but some time between getting my regional class date, and finishing IOE, I had squarely set my sights on ULCC. Hoped and prayed I could build time quick and go right seay to right seat. Perusing forums for info daily, talking to guys in DTW when I commuted, and it sounded like there was a lot more positivity in 2019 and early 2020. I didn’t really update apps or read much on the forums during covid but I’ve been back the last few months and it feels like a totally different environment. Yes I know it’s the forums, and I know every airline forum has started to look like this. But F9 looks…idk what’s going on over there and morale here seems to have tanked to non-existent, with attrition and retention as bad as my regional.

I wouldn’t judge moral based off of APC posts. Can we fix things? Of course, but I’m still happy and I know most I have talked to are as well.
