I think we are a little naive if we think downsizing isn’t coming . I feel spirit is in a better spot than most airlines, but traffic is down significantly and although we are ramping up for the summer , the fall is usually slow, and throw in a uptick in the virus, I can’t see how we aren’t immune from a possible furlough. Fast forward 3 years and I feel we will be fine .. but a furlough of the bottom 200-400 doesn’t seem far fetched. The 3 year upgrade and 50 new hires a month is so 6 months ago. It a new normal IMHO

I bet they cut the bottom 100 or so and cover any further need with voluntary stuff and VIL’s.

For the sake of discussion, why bother then if it’s only 100? That’s a tiny percentage of their pilot payroll. I certainly hope voluntary/ VIL measures can prevent involuntary furloughs. |
I would hope to see some early retirements offered in place of furloughs. Cutting the bottom 100 on first year pay will do nothing.

Between now and a year from now, I gain 13 numbers. 2021-2022; 10 numbers.... I don’t think early retirements will mitigate a furlough. We’re too young. |
10 guys off the top equals about 40 new hires as far as payroll. Get some guys 60-65 at the top of the payscale to take an early out. New guys aren't worth anything.

Except those at the top are the greediest ones. They pick up trips and x/y-list like they don’t need any sleep or rest at all. Then they complain about NK’s “crappy” trips all while they show you pictures of their 5000 sq ft and their 386k boat in the background.

Exactly! When the oldest dude in base is grabbing LGA turns in OT like a meth fiend, on the Y list..etc.. Hard to think they’re financially ready for early retirement!
Please don’t paint all that pick up extra trips with the broad paint brush of being greedy or financially ignorant. There’s a lot of us who have been through the ringer in this business while raising a family that are just trying to make a little more for our impending retirement that didn’t enjoy much time in the left seat. |
