And then the company will just offer regional type bonus payments. Which, of course, will be subtracted from their ability to increase pay to everyone in the next negotiation. So, why don’t we just negotiate on behalf of “pilots not on property?”

And “negotiating on behalf of pilots not on property” sounds great until you realize that looming pilot shortages will likely resolve the situation before we sign another contract in 5 years or so. But, yes, we should seek to handle it if supply and demand doesn’t lead to a correction before then.
Also, before some knucklehead jumps in with the “we didn’t have trouble attracting pilots during negotiations under even worse pay conditions” argument, we need to remember that we’re about to hit the fat part of the retirement bell curve for the better part of a decade.
