The death rate is falling because we are testing more. In fact, in the end, the overall death rate for this virus will probably be pretty average as compared to other viruses. BUT, when you break down deaths into smaller sample sizes, for example groups of ages by say 0 to 10, 10 to 20 and so on.. you'll get a much more precise picture of how dangerous the virus is. We know by now that the death rate with Covid 19 increases as age increases. The death rate is substantially higher with older populations. This point/fact is extremely significant to the argument and if this virus and its media attention is worthy. The fact is, the attention and caution is whether you choose to believe it or not. When we hit 1 % of the US population infected, we had around 120K deaths. At 2% 240k, 3% 360k.. and so on.
  • We are losing as many Americans every 2 days now that we lost on 9/11.
  • In 6 months we are almost at 160k deaths.
  • We are seeing exponential growth now..
This is in addition to the normal causes of death. We have ICU's all over the country reaching capacity.

Mask: They do work. They are not perfect but ANY augment against them is dripping in enough cognitive dissonance we could power a large city with it. Mask have been known to reduce the spread of bacterial and viral infection. We as a civilization have known this FACT for literally hundreds and hundreds of years. It's not a conspiracy to take down a President or take away anyone's liberties, its a mitigating tool and it works. Period.
Thank you for posting a reasonable and logical perspective. C'mon people, take the tin foil hats off.

I do feel for those that died strictly from covid, that is a tragedy. It's time for the country to take precautions and open up, time to go back to living.

thats just the problem isn’t it? We’ve got a clown and gang running the show who don’t care about precautions. There has never been a coherent plan. Not in the beginning. Not now. It’s always been up to the states. And in some, like Florida, the Governor punted to the counties.
there has never been an effective mandate on precautions. Even now I see grown men and women who can’t be bothered to wear a mask. A simple mask. So this thing is going to go on for many months until an effective vaccine can be given to most of the country. And to think we had the best chance of getting through this better than any other country but we just had a person in charge who wasn’t up to the task. Sad.

Ironically, those that vehemently deny masks most likely wont take a vaccine either.

To add to this. There STILL isn't any coherent federal plan or action in play. They just left us (states) rudderless. We are headed for a depression.

We need testing nationally that returns results in 24/48 hours. We need contact tracing. We need mask manufactured and supplied to Americans. Mask mandates. We should be seeing advertisements all over the TV, internet, radio, whatever media you choose, from out federal govt., talking about how to stop this. Get everyone on the same plan. Get infection numbers to a manageable number so we can identify clusters and shut them down before they spread further. Public confidence in their own safety and the response of the federal government is dropping and until that recovers, neither will the economy and in turn, our jobs.

when this is all over, and the furlough is in the rear view mirror and we get a couple of elections down the road, I hope we all take a good hard look at what we have done. When did we become so distrustful of science and people who devote their lives to public service and think everyone and everything is a scam? Vaccines, global warming and so many other fact based policies that would help us all have been set aside. If this was 1980 1/2 of you would be arguing smoking didn’t cause cancer because Alex Jones said so. Sad

For the life of me I just don't get the mask thing. Ever been to an emergency room in your life, mask. Had surgery, mask. Blood taken, sometimes mask. Watched an episode of MASH, mask. Its common knowledge that all the sudden is rejected.

What is really really really sad to me... is the acceptance of conspiracies in our culture. I get it though, when you are left with absolutely NO logical way to defend your position, the only thing that makes sense is a good, ol fasion, conspiracy. And it's currently killing any chance of attacking this crisis with any meaningful effort.

Just thought of something kinda funny.

Think about all those times before COVID and you are briefing an FA and when you say it’s a full flight the FA rolls her eyes and lets out a loud “ugh”.

now because of that lots of them are about to loose their jobs....how poetic.

be careful what you wish for folks!

With an increasing mortality rate with age I wonder how many of the C19 victims would have died of other causes in the next 12 months without a C19 infection. Will we see an increase in the number of deaths or will we simply skew the numbers of deaths to the left and then see a dip before we return to normal post C19?

I've been looking for a chart with deaths from all causes by week compared to last year. Used to be easy to find. Not so much now. If anyone sees it, please post a link.

We have an aging population that unfortunately will increase the death rate. I also anecdotally feel that the collective death rate for this virus in the end will be higher than the flu, but nothing astounding. Younger populations drive the death rate down dramatically. People who make this political cling to that.
