New cities
Because I’m totally bored and want to start a mindless thread. Yesterday on the call they mentioned more new cities coming this year. Anyone care to speculate ? Fun overnights? Few guesses I have ...
San Antonio Anchorage Grand Rapids Oklahoma City Birmingham |
Duluth
Pierre Jackson Hole Quito Lubbock Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk |
San Antonio-we used to do, but I would think we would do very well there.
I would love Anchorage. We could definitely snag customers from Alaska Airlines...seems like Southwest is already beating Alaska up on the west cost/Hawaii and we can go in for some more punches. Quito- yeah! Why not...jet blue does it out of FLL so can we. lubbock-ehh probably not big enough but then again some other small cities we serve surprises me. Salt Lake City- the airport is about to finish expansion. I think we would give a whack at it once it’s complete. maybe more tropical destinations because that is where everyone is flocking to... Liberia, Costa Rica.... Port of Spain, Cozumel??? |
Pierre, that’s random! I like it.. rapid city SD is neat area too
|
Jackson, Mississippi
But only if we could get Kid Rock to perform on the inaugural flight, otherwise...nah |
Dallas Love Field and a co-base. You herd it first here.
|
Saskatoon
Charlottetown Belize Pelston Omaha Lihue Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk |
TUL
SFO Key West maybe we get some A321 with the long range down to Buenos Aires, Santiago, or São Paulo. Sent from my SJ-G985F using Walkatalk |

Maybe MEM will make the cut. It’s a ghost town

I’d love to give that a shot. Quito- yeah! Why not...jet blue does it out of FLL so can we. no real opinion, jungle flying is jungle flying to me. As long as it makes money lubbock-ehh probably not big enough but then again some other small cities we serve surprises me. approaching 300,000 people and the university is close to 40,000. LBB-IAH could be good. DFW MIGHT read too short of a flight but Southwest was doing love out of there for a while. Maybe still? Also had a Vegas flight for a while IIRC and DEN Salt Lake City- the airport is about to finish expansion. I think we would give a whack at it once it’s complete. I have been hearing this one a lot and it’s probably the most sensible of all that you mentioned. maybe more tropical destinations because that is where everyone is flocking to... Liberia, Costa Rica.... Port of Spain, Cozumel??? reaponses in bold above |

I was just there and saw Delta and American 319's there. I checked their loads because I was jumpseating out, and they were both full. I ended up on Republic to EWR.

Oh I love mindless rumors.
1. Management said a couple town-halls ago that they definitely want to see Anchorage, as they see it as a high-yield seasonal route with high fares. 2. LAX is a MX base and has more flying than ORD, DFW, DTW, BWI, ACY, EWR, or ATL. In fact, IIRC the only three cities we do more departures per day out of (this July) are FLL, MCO, and LAS— and a big percentage of LAS flying is to support LAX. I heard from a good source that NK was considering a LAX crew base pre-covid, not BWI. I would bet that ANY additional gates in LAX would mean a crew base. I’m sure it’s expensive but so is X hotel rooms a night. 3. Apparently someone in the Allegiant training department is telling people there that ALGT has already bought spirit but can’t spill the beans because of the covid money  just some ideas :D |
I think it’s to late to announce Anchorage this year. I bet we see it for next summer though.
|
GEG - Spokane
SLC - Salt lake |
I noticed we don’t fly to JAX anymore. Kinda bummed when a new city doesn’t workout for us. I wonder if Burbank is next...Really bad loads lately it seems like and only flying twice a week.
|
ISP
SLC Cozumel Are my wishlist... |

Not only that, but back when prices were REALLY depressed, the BOD adopted a “poison pill” provision that would allow them to fend off unwanted takeovers: https://www.nasdaq.com/articles/spir...off-2020-03-30 I would regard that rumor as unlikely to be true. |
AVL,JAX already done .... BUR,SNA,GSO probably next on the chopping block.

Checkout all the additional destinations they added to STL...let’s start a rumor on that being a base now.

I'm 90 percent sure I saw SJO overnights too. I'd love to get Liberia, Grand Cayman, Cozumel and other places down there but I feel like it'd all be turns. I would kill for some of those overnights if we didn't do mostly turns out of FLL/MCO.
FYI don’t take this that I want our entire airline to operate as a multi base turn only operation ala Allegiant. That kills flexibility. |

You just stop with that filth. Turns have the best overnights. I eat breakfast at home, eat dinner at home, work out at my own gym or at my own beach, don’t ride a hotel van with a bad driver in bumper to bumper traffic. You want overnights I think we have plenty of cold snowy places to indulge your senses.

I'd rather spend nights on the road than nights at the pad. If I can at least have some nice warm overnights somewhere I think is a bit more exotic, is that really asking for too much? If I lived in base though I'd be singing a different tune. |

To me it is incredibly overrated. To some its the best thing in the world. That’s fine. I have far more time at home now (being on the road) than I did doing day trips. I could explain more if one desires, but I’ll just leave it at that. |

You must not have screaming kids at home? Sometimes it’s nice to take a short work vacation.
I love the work vacation as much as the next guy. A nice cozy room at the Boston long on a cold snowy day is the perfect fit. I don’t really have much interest in a GUA, SAL, MGA, etc overnight. Kind of like SDO, it’s a PIA. All these places are great for turns. Now I could get behind a Liberia, CR Not advocating for an all turn airline. Just saying most of these capital cities aren’t really anywhere I would care to overnight if we can have it as a turn. I traveled a lot in Latin America during college on an extreme budget and loved it. The cities were the worst part. It’s a bit different when you’re only there for less than a day and you have to deal with the airports and customs and put your monkey suit on instead of a backpack. No interest in international overnights south of the border. |

Not really screaming unless they’re trying to kill each other which is daily.

Back in the line bidding days I tried one month a day line line. What I got out of that was 10-11 hours of each of my day dedicated to work including commuting to the airport. I looked at the difference in what my typical per diem was for the month and it was a $500-600 cut from what would usually show up on the middle of the month check. Not worth the headache IMO. That per diem throughout the year adds up. Before anyone tells me per diem isn’t pay, let’s not pretend like $4000-5000 a year added to my check isn’t noteworthy.
